These drop tubes are supplied in a variety of lengths and are designed to be altered in the field to meet specific tank dimensions. Installing Emco Wheaton drop tubes is fast and simple and requires no excavation. The drop tube is in- serted in the riser pipe until it touches the bottom of the tank. Next, the dis- tance from the top of the tube or lugs to the top edge of the riser pipe is measured, and 3" is added. This amount is then cut from the bottom of the drop tube at a 45° angle. In fact, you can't overlook a setup step with- out the TLS-350 letting you know! UST MONITORING SYSTEMS 3 For emergency generator app'ications . . . . a special function can be selected, allowing you to monitor a mix of gener- ator and standard fueling tanks with just one system. Logica' operating procedures. . . make the TLS-350 simple and easy for anybody to use. Its front~panel keyboard has been designed with easy-to-understand function buttons that let the operator glide easily through the inventory and system status information gathered by the TLS-350. In addition, in-tank leak tests for all tanks or just a single tank can be initiated from the front panel, and output relays connected to external alarms, devices and pump controls can be tested easily. During normal operation, the TLS-350 continuously checks itself and provides a "System Status" display to keep the operator informed of any alarm conditions or system problems that may exist. 'nformation-viewed or printed. .. the way you need it, when you need it. The TLS-350's new two-line, 24-character liquid crystal display lets you access information on inventory, system status, setup and diagnostics. . Its high-speed printer can deliver clean, clear reports on this information at the touch of a button or automatically at times programmed to match your operating schedule. ALAR~_ WARNlN~~ POWEEr~ TLS-350 front-panel keyboard, display and printer provide operation and setup, easy access to inventory information. [}>[j'@@[j'~fñJi)[jfffJ~&JB@ ÆB&¡[j'fñJi) f?@&¡gß[J[j'@~ The TLS-350 also features programmable alarm limits that warn of in-tank alarm conditions. These limits are used to identify: J> Product loss due to leaks J> Product loss due to theft J> High Water in the tanks J> Low Inventory J> Potential Overfills (even a second overfill limit to prevent delivery of fuel to a full tank) Any of these in-tank alarm limits as well as leak alarm signals from intersti- tial, vapor and groundwater sensors and line leak detectors can be tied to relays in the system to trigger on-site devices such as an overfill warning alarm or to initiate an automatic alarm report to a central computer or mon- itoring service. @&¡g&¡ ©@fñJi)fñJi)[Jj][jf)Ö©&JÍ]Ö@[jf)~ f?@&¡~(]f][j'@~ Two data communications interfaces are available-RS~232 for local con- nection to a modem, P.O.S. terminal or computer, or an internal modem . for direct connection to phone lines. TM Emco Wheaton A400S Vantage Vapor Recovery Nozzle ) Taking the high ground in Vapor Recovery technology The all-new Emco Wheaton A4005 Vantage is the latest addition to the Emco Wheaton Vapor Recovery Noz' zle family, Developed with customer satisfaction in mind, the Vantage utilizes the most up-to-date vapor recovery technology available. It boasts the light weight and streamlined design of previous A4000 Series nozzles. This nozzle, however, does not require an external vapor valve, The vapor valve is built into the nozzle with a negligible in, crease in weight (1.5 oz.), This feature eliminates valve installation cost as well as the need to inspect and main, tain the valve. Some installations may require the use of an A4041 or A4042 splitter. See page 10 for details, The A4005 is available in leaded and unleaded spouts and is CARB and U.L. approved. A black scuff guard and black hand- warmer are standard. The A4005 Vantage Nozzle features the same insertion interlock device as all A4000 Series nozzles. This device prevents fuel flow through the nozzle until it is properly inserted into the filler neck, In addition, the A4005 Vantage along with the A4001 incorporates enhanced internal engineering which increases reliability. Husky's new Coaxial Super Safe-T-Break incorporates the pat- ented design features of the Super Safe-T-Break with the demanding vapor recovery requirements of Stage II fueling systems. The Husky Coaxial Super Safe·T-Break is designed with a COAXIAL SUPER SAFE·T·BREAK ~PM çPM MODEL 3030 12 unique internal pressure balancing chamber that overrides line shock. This feature assures the unit will separate from a 200 lb. pull, but internal line pressure will not force the unit apart. Excessive line pressure results from line shock and forced stretching of that hose, causing nuisance breaks. The Coaxial Super Safe-T-8reak will not separate under these conditions. In addition. after a driveaway the unit is reconnectable and retains its U.L. listing. The unit is completely reusable. no undamaged parts need to be replaced or reconditioned. Because the Coaxial Super Safe-T-Break is not installed near the nozzle, it will not affect the flexibility or ease of handling of tOday's lightweight hose and Stage II nozzles. Less bulk at the "business end" of the fueling hose is a customer benefit. In addition to its unique design and rugged construction, the Husky Coaxial Super Safe-T·Break offers several other user benefits: U1 ( 40 8 Þ(jjtf I8r,;trl ~ rltr:.M "'.~ ...(~ wi::1 t:1, ..ipff~nI. The space betwœn secondary and carrier is continuous throughout, so you can morùtor your system's performance. Any problem anywhere in the system and you'll lrnow immediately. And it's all rugged fiberglass-inside and out. That's protection 'plastic trench liners can't deliver. And then there's our resin-rich epoxy inner liner that's an integral part of the pipe wall. It's flexible and resilient for impact protection, and it's chemically inert just like fittings and proven, UL-listed Dualoy 3000/L pipe. Our pipe is so smooth on the outside that you nœd only remove the surface gloss before installing the containment fittings: no special end preparation is reqtúred. That's quick installation only Ameron can offer. For more information, call Ameron Fiberglass Pipe Division (713) 690-7777, or write to Dept. PM, r.o. Box 801148, Houston, Texas 77280. Dualoy 3OOO1L from Ameron is the best UL-listed piping available for underground fuel system construction and rehabilitation. Manufactured from chemically inert materials, Dualoy 30001L fiberglass pipe and fittings resist external corrosion far better than cathodically protected steel. The Dualoy 30001L liner delivers features and performance no other UL -listed piping system can offer. Resilient and holiday-free, the flexible inner liner is an added layer of . protection inside the structural pipe wall. Competitive fiberglass pipe has no liner. Galvanized steel pipe can descale when exposed to modem no-lead fuels. The inert Qualoy 30001L liner remains intact throughout the service life of the system, protecting , downstream strainers and pumps while maintaining product purity. Ughtweight and easy to handle, Dualoy 3000/L with its simple, . Thousands of steel service station fuel- handling systems throughout the United States have reached the end of their service lifetimes. An API survey has shown that unprotected steel tanks and piping account for 94 percent of all leaks, and nearty one-third of these leaks can be traced to the piping itself. Federal laws passed in 1984 and 1988 permit only two piping materials for service station rehabilitation and new construction: cathodically protected steel or fiberglass. Dualoy 3000!L provides secondary containment pipir19in a tan/{ complex designed to store a variety of jet fuels. Seen here is the inner catTier piping during initial layout. threadless adhesive joint can be installed in less than half the time needed for steel. The result is lower initial installed cost and a maintenance-free corrosion resistant piping system with a service life much longer than steel. Inert to external corrosion Dualoy 3000/L piping is electrically nonconductive and never requires cathodic protection. Installed systems are immune to external corrosion from stray-current electrolysis and cathodic inter- ference. They are unaffected by alkaline or acidic soil conditions. Installation, inspection and maintenance of costly impressed- current systems and sacrificial anodes are permanently eliminated. Excellent flow characteristics The superior flow characteristics of fiberglass pipe are now more important than ever because of the high pressure drop through today's multiple product dispensers. Because of its smooth inner liner, Dualoy 3000/L maintains a high Hazen-Williams coefficient of 150 throughout its service life for consistently low pressure drop. :1 , .;~.. t , ~ ;J. ';~" .. The trench b::>ttom must be free of hard or sharp objects that could damage the pipe or fittings and should slope evenly from the dispensers back to the tanks. For unpaved areas: a minimum of 18 inches of select backfill is recommended between the top of the pipe and the ground surface to minimize the likelihood of damaging the pipe. For reinforced concrete pavement (4 inches thick minimum): a minimum of 4 inches of select backfill is recommended between the top of the pipe and the pavement. For asphalt pavement (2 inches thick minimum): a minimum of 8 inches of select backfill is recommended between the top of the pipe and the pavement. Provide a trench width equal to the pipe diameter plus six inches on each side for a single line. For multiple lines in the same trench, separate the pipes by at least 4 inches while allowing 6 inches from the trench wall. Although fiberglass pipe has excellent strength properties. it must be protected against impact damage which is most likely to result from improper handling or during backfilling. When laying pipe near concrete. wrap it with rubber or foam padding to avoid direct contact with the concrete. The subgrade should be well compacted to prevent differential settling. When containing vent piping. support steel riser pipes by something other than fiberglass vent or containment piping, as the weight of the steel piping may prevent good bonds in the fiberglass lines and might very possibly result in leaks. Support the riser pipes by attaching them directly to the structure walls. Always include a coupling in the secondary wherever a primary coupling is located. Cut the containment pipe to allow 1 to 1 '/2 inches for insertion into each containment fitting. In primary runs not containing a coupling (that is, less than 20 feet or one standard pipe length), include a containment coupling anyway, as this will facilitate access to the primary fittings during bonding, testing and inspection. For short primary runs where space limitations make the use of an entire containment coupling inconvenient, cut a full-length containment coupling to make two short couplings. Locate the cuts so the bolt holes are equidistant from the ends. At crossovers and very short runs where a containment .. cåuþling is not included, cut the containment pipe so that a 3/4-inch insertion depth in the containment fittings is maintained. Using inspection containment piping: If 100% inspection of the primary . piping is specified or desired, special 3'/2 -in containment pipe and appropriate reducing couplings are available. Each run of primary pipe can be contained by three pieces of containment pipe, each one third the length of the primary pipe run. The two lengths of containment pipe at the end of the run are standard containment pipe; the rpiddle piece is sized between the 3- and 4-in standard diameters. In '3 over 2' systems, the middle section slips over the 3-in containment pipe; in '4 over 3' system, the middle piece slips inside. By manipulating the pipe sections during testing of the primary, 100% inspection of the primary system can be acheived. A typical run of primary pipe in a '3 over 2' system can be bonded (or inspected) by sliding the first section of containment pipe inside the larger center section: this provides complete access to one-third of the primary. The first section is then returned to its proper position and the center section is placed over it: this provides access to the center third of the primary. Access to the final third of the primary line is acheived by placing the remaining length of secondary inside the larger center section. 3 Dry fitting secondary containment system (continued) ŒTB -i1""~ Containing flexible connectors Steel pipe Hose clamp Containment boot Flex connector (by others) Hose damp Rberglass containment pipe 3 x 1 '" containment reducer 1 '" gaJv coupling o 4 After inspection, the containment system is closed by bonding with standard adhesives. . When joining adjacent lengths of pipe with containment reducers, insert the larger diameter pipe no more than 11/2 inches into the reducer. Make sure that the end of the pipe does not contact the tapered part of the reducer, as this may prevent the two halves of the reducer from closing completely. Tighten the reducer at the large end first, letting the smaller diameter containment pipe come as required. For pipe runs less than three feet in length, the standard 14-in containment coupling and pipe sections can be substituted for inspection containment piping. Flexible containment boots are available from Ameron aod from flexible connector manufacturers and other sources to extend the containment from the fiberglass containment to the shear valve. Alternatively, containment elbows and reducers may be combined with short pieces of piping to encase the 1 112-inch flexible connector to just below the shear valve. Containment fittings cannot be sealed directly to flexible connectors. Using the adhesives For best results, the adhesive should be at 70 to 100°F (21 to 38°C) when used. Thus, do not store kits in the direct sunlight during warm weather. In cold weather warm the resin to 70°F (21 0c) to permit good mixing and easier application. Use C20HT adhesive to assemble 3- and 4-inch containment systems and SC-10 adhesive for 6-inch systems. Take careto scrape all resin from the lid and from under the upper lip ofthe can. Empty all the hardener into the can of resin. Do not allow any water to get into the can. Mix thoroughly with the wooden spatula until all streaks are gone and the mixture has a uniform color. Excessively vigorous stirring may cause some hardener to splash out or may result in air entrapment. Mix all of the hardener and resin in the supplied proportions. Never try to split a kit The hardeners contained in the adhesive kits might burn the skin. Avoid . inhaling the vapors. Read and observe the label precautions. Pot life/cure time The pot life (working time) of adhesives is measured from the time the hardener and resin are first mixed until the adhesive starts to thicken and harden and no longer can be used. The table indicates the pot life of a 6.8-oz adhesive kit under various temperature conditions. This table also indicates the cure time required prior to moving or hydrotesting the bond. In hot weather, pot life may be extended by wrapping a damp rag around the can of mixed adhesive to keep it cool. At temperatures below 65°F (18°C), use an external heat source to force cure the adhesive. The adhesive should be warmed to 70°F (21°C) before mixing and applying. Adhesive may be force cured using an Ameron Chem Cure Pak, hot air gun, an Ameron heating blanket that will completely cover the containment fitting, or a forced air heater if the trench is covered to contain the heat. At temperatures below 40°F WC) or if it is windy, plug the end of the pipe before curing and, if using heating blankets, wrap insulation over the heating blanket and fittings. (. Sealing secondary containment system After the primary lines have been successfully tested, the containment system can be joined. For the adhesive to perform properly, all bonding surfaces must be free from water, soap, oil, grease, dirt and the like and should be lightly sanded. Take care that each leg of the containment pipe goes into the fitting straight and is not disturbed until the adhesive has cured. Do not step on the containment pipe before the adhesive is cured as this can disturb the joints enough to cause leaks. Assembly of 3- and 4-inch systems Sand shaded areas before applying adhesive Apply a uniform, heavy coating of adhesive to all flat, sanded sealing surfaces of the fitting, to the sanded radius of the fitting where the pipe will fit and to the outside of the containment pipe. Put the containment fitting around the containment pipe carefully. Make sure it is not cocked or misaligned in the fitting. Tighten the nuts and bolts in steps to bring the mating surfaces together evenly. Bring the nuts and bolts on the inside flanges of the elbows and tees -.- down first before tightening those on the outside completely. Do not attempt to move the containment piping during the cure as this may cause leaks. - Assembly of 6-inch systems 6. Apply a uniform layer of SC-1 0 adhesive at least 1/8 inch thick to all flat, sanded sealing surfaces, the sanded end of the containment pipe and to the sanded radius of the fitting where the containment pipe will fit. Assembly procedures after application of SC-1 0 adhesive are the same as for C20HT. If the temperature is below 40°F (4°C), the containment pipe and containment fittings should be warmed to at least 70°F (21°C) before applying the warmed adhesive. Testing Secondary containment systems are intended to prevent accidental pollution of the soil and groundwater. Shut-off valves, leak detectors and the like should prevent the secondary containment system from seeing the operating pressure of the primary lines. Low-pressure air testing of approximately 10 psi is recommended and is the preferred method of testing. Higher air pressures in testing the secondary containment system would be dangerous as a sudden release could cause pipe and fittings to whip out of the trench. A 1 O-psi test will attest to the integrity of the system. If higher pressures are required, please consult Ameron.
