Box 711 Bakersfield, California 93302 Dear Mr. Harrell: Enclosed are the results of the preliminary site assessment for a 330 gallon underground fuel and/or oil tank located on the Clarion Hotel property. The property is located in Section 30, T.29S., R.28E., M.D.B.& M. in Bakersfield, California. It is located at the southwest corner of Truxtun Avenue and "Q" Street (see Attach- ment A). During the excavation for foundation construction a 330 gallon tank was unearthed and removed. Subsequent to the tank removal a permit for permanent closure of this tank was issued by the Kern County Health Department. Two soil samples were collected from below the tank location. Both the job foreman and the equipment operator that removed the tank identified the location where the tank had been located (see Attachment B). One soil sample was collected at a depth of 2 feet below the bottom of the tank and aaother at 6 feet below the bottom of the tank. These samples were collected with a hand auger and placed in glass jars. The jars were then placed on ice until delivered to B. C. Laboratories for analyses. o As per county requirements, the soil samples were analyzed for B.T.X., T.P.H., T.O.X., oil and grease, and lead. The results of e( e (- Mr. Tom Harrell c/o AIRCOA July 14, 1988 Page 2 the analyses are shown on Attachment C. As can be seen, no contamination above detectable limits was found in either of the samples. Based on the results of this investigation, no contamination above detectable limits from product leakage exists beneath the tank location and no mitigation measures are deemed necessary. Tank removal contractor must have a qualified company employee on-site supervising the actual tank removal. 5. Any deviation from sample locations and numbers or consti tuents to be sampled for which are described below and in Handbook #UT-30 must receive prior approval by the Health Department. a. a minimum of two samples must be retrieved beneath the center of the waste oil tank's original locatiön at depths of approximately two feet and six feet. 6. a.
