HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 23-89RESOLUTION NO. 23-89 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD BOYCOTTING ALL MEETINGS SCHEDULED IN SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA. WHEREAS, the farmers and growers of the San Joaquin Valley have enjoyed a reputation of producing the finest of fruits and vegetables; and WHEREAS, the grape growers of the San Joaquin Valley are involved in a labor' dispute; and part of said dispute, they have had their produce labeled as being unfit; and WHEREAS, there is no basis in fact for such allegation; and WHEREAS, the City and County of San Francisco have under- taken to lend credence to such an allegation by boycotting the purchase of grapes for its facilities as an effort to inflict dam- age to the grape industry, and agriculture in the San Joaquin Valley in general. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: 1. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized, ordered and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the City and County of San Francisco, urging them to reverse their boycott. 2. That t~he City Council of the City of Bakersfield, pending the reversal of the position of the City and County of San Francisco, does hereby declare that the City of Bakersfield, its officers and employees, will not be permitted to attend any meetings, gatherings or conventions in the City of San Francisco. 3. That the City Manager of the City of Bakersfield is hereby directed to communicate and advise each of the groups, organizations, and bodies in which the City of Bakersfield might participate, in which meetings, seminars, or conventions might be scheduled in San Francisco, of the City's position so that such meetings might be rescheduled for other cities in the area. .......... o0o ..........
