As a company, we intend to provide information about chemical hazards and other hazardous substances, and the control of hazards via our comprehensive Hazard Commùnication Program which includes container labeling, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and training. The following program outlines how we will accomplish this objective. 1. container Labeling It is the policy of this company that no hazardous substances will be released for use until the following label information is verified: a. containers are clearly labeled as to the contents b. Appropriate hazard warnings are noted c. The name and address of the manufacturer are listed Note: If the hazard warnings and manufacturer name and address are not listed on the container, the MSDS sheets fer that substance shall be attached to the container. This responsibility has been assigned to Vernon sitton. To further ensure that employees are aware of the hazards of materials used in their work areas, it is our policy to label all secondary containers. The superintendent on each jobsite will ensure that all secondary containers are labeled with either an extra copy of the original manufacturer's label or with generic labels which have a block for identity and blocks for the hazard warning. 1 e e- 2. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) Copies of MSDS for all hazardous substances to which employees of this company may be exposed are kept in the jobsite trailer or job shack. The job superintendent will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining the data sheet for each hazardous substance on his job. Vernon sitton will review incoming data sheets for new and significant health/safety information. He will see that any new information is passed on to the affected employees. MSDS will be reviewed for completeness by Vernon sitton. If an MSDS is missing or obviously incomplete, a new MSDS will be requested from the manufacturer. Cal/OSHA will be notified if, a complete MSDS is not received. MSDS are available to all employees in their work area for review during each work shift. If MSDS are not available or new hazardous substance(s) in use do not have MSDS, please contact the job superintendent immediately. 3. Employee Information and Training Employees are to attend a health and safety orientation set up by the job superintendent, prior to starting work for information and training on the following: a. An overview of the requirements contained in the Hazard Communication Regulation, including their rights under the Regulation. b. Inform employees of any operations in their work area where hazardous substances are present. c. Location and availability of the written hazard com- munication program. d. Physical and health effects of the hazardous substances. e. Methods and observation techniques used to determine the presence or release of hazardous substances in the work area. f. How to lessen or prevent exposure to these hazardous substances through usage of engineering controls, work practices, and/or the use of personal protective equip- ment. g. steps the company has taken to lessen or prevent exposure to these substances. h. Emergency and first aid procedures to follow if employees are exposed to hazardous subst~Dce(s). 2 e e i. How to read labels and review MSDS to obtain hazardous information. Note: It is critically important that all of our employees understand the training. If you have any additional questions, please contact Vernon sitton. When new hazardous substances are introduced, the job super- intendent will review the above items as they are related to the new material in your weekly safety meeting. 4. List of Hazardous Substances The following is a list of hazardous substances that might be present in the yard or on our jobsites. Specific information on each noted hazardous substance(s) can be obtained by re- viewing the Material Safety Data Sheets. Hazardous Substances Location Kept D.F.C. Hazardous Non-Routine Tasks Occasionally, employees are required to perform hazardous non-routine tasks. Prior to starting work on such projects, each affected employee will be given information by their job superintendent about hazards to which they may be exposed during such an activity. This information will include: a. Specific hazards b. Protective/safety measures which must be utilized c. Measures the company has taken to lessen the hazards including ventilation, respirators, presence of another employee and emergency procedures 3 e e 6. Hazardous Substances at an Existing Establishment If a job is being done at an existing establishment where hazardous substances may be present, it is the responsibility of the job superintendent to secure the following information: a. Hazardous substance to which our employees may be exposed while on the jobsite. b. Precautions the employees may take to lessen the possibil- ity of exposure by usage of appropriate protective measures. If anyone has questions about this plan, contact Vernon sitton. Our plan will be monitored by Ken Altergott to ensure that the policìes are carried out and that the plan is effective. COLOMBO CONSTRUCTION CO., INC. ú},~ j~ Vernon Sitton' 4 e e HAZARD COMMUNICATION EMPLOYEE TRAINING PROGRAM Colombo Construction developed to ensure that substances used on our with these substances. Company's training program has been its employees are aware of the hazardous jobs and the cornmon hazards ass,?ciated Overview of the Hazard Communication Regulation The Hazard Communication Regulation is intended to ensure that both employers and employees are aware of the dangers associated wi th hazardous substances in their workplace. The following information is a review of the specific requirements of a hazard communication program, including container labeling, MSDS and training. written Hazard Communication proaram We have a written program that outlines how we will provide information and control your exposure to hazardous substances. This plan is available for your review during our training and at the job trailer or office for review during your work shift. Hazardous Substances Used On Our Jobs On our jobs, we use a variety of products. Some of these products contain one or more hazardous substances. Attached is an inventory list showing the products used on our jobs which contain hazardous substances. 1 e e nNV~IN11fOHllr [1.1$1 HAZAnoous SUOSTANCE AREA WHERE STORED MSDS D.F.C. Each label will have two important pieces of information you should be familiar with: 1. The identity of the hazardous substances 2. Hazard warnings Note: If no serious hazards exist, the containers will be labeled with an MSDS number that corresponds with the number assigned to the MSDS sheet for that product. A copy of the MSDS sheet will be attached to the original container. The label on the original container will also state the name and address of the manufacturer. The label should act as a visual reminder of the information we have presented in this training session and of the information found in more detail on the MSDS. It is essential for your safety that you read the hazard warning or MSDS sheets and only use the hazardous substances within the guidelines prescribed on the label. Questions concerning the label should be directed to your superintendent. Material safety Data Sheets (MSDS) - The MSDS is the primary means we will use to convey the necessary information about the hazards of the substances we use. The manufacturers and importers are responsible for providing us with the MSDS. The manufacturer must provide us with adequate information in order that we can use the substance safely.
