HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 198-88RESOLUTION NO. 198-88 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD 2~ENDING RESOLUTION NO. 10-88 SETTING SALARIES AND RELATED BENEFITS FOR NEW CLASSIFICATIONS FOR OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD. (FIRE INSPECTOR AND PLANNING TECHNICIAN - HAZARDOUS MATERIALS) WHEREAS, Resolution No. benefits for officers and employees of the City, and the City desires to make amendment thereof. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield that effective September 28, 1988, the Salary Schedule, a part of Resolution No. 10-88, is hereby amended as 10-88 sets salaries and related follows: 1. Resolution 10-88 is hereby amended adding the following class titles to the White Collar Unit: 147 A Fire Inspector 9.335 9.803 10.295 10.810 746.80 784.24 823.60 864.80 1,624.29 1,'705.72 1,791.33 1,880.94 11.350 908.00 1,974.90 502 A Planning Technician - Hazardous Materials 11.703 12.286 12.900 13.544 14.222 936.24 982.88 1,032.00 1,083.52 1,137.76 2,036.32 2,137.76 2,244.60 2,356.66 2,474.63 I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting thereof held on September 28, 1988 , by the following vote: CITY CLERK and Ex Officio Clerk of the Council of the City of Bakersfield APPROVED Sep~_m~.~r 2~z 1988 MAYOR of the City of Bakersfield APPROVED as to form: ~?~3~'A~~/~ City of Bakersfield nmw RESFIRE 9/13/88 - 2 - CLASS TITLE: FIRE INSPECTOR 147 CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: Under supervision, inspects industrial, commercial, institutional and residential facilities to ensure compliance with state and local fire and life safety codes; and assists in cause and origin of fire investigations. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Inspects sprinkler and alarm systems and other selected devices and equipment; enforces fire safety codes and issues notices, warnings and citations; reviews plans to ensure compliance with state and local fire codes; assists in cause and origin of fire investigations; writes inspection reports, maintains records; prepares documents in support of citations or warrants for violator's arrests; inspects industrial, commercial, institutional and residential facilities to ensure compliance with state and local fire and life safety codes; testifies in court on criminal and civil matters filed by the Fire Prevention Bureau on offenses against fire laws, ordinances and regulations; performs other related duties as assigned. DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or attain- ment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test; and two years of college level coursework in fire science or related field. Two years of experience in fire safety or building construction inspection. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of fire protection and life safety systems; technical fire protection and inspection procedures and practices; local and state fire codes, national fire safety and prevention standards, plans review, Uniform fire and building construction codes. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid California driver's license. Approved by the Fire Civil Service Board: Approved by the City Council: 9-02-88 CLASS TITLE: PLANNING TECHNICIAN - HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 502 CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: Under general supervision, to assist various businesses in achieving compliance with current hazardous materials regulations, and performs other work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Evaluates various engineering plans with respect to the design of operation and maintenance of equipment; detects and monitors alarms and automatic control systems designed to minimize the potential for hazardous material exposure to workers, general public and emergency responders; conducts follow-up hazardous material inspections; assists businesses in achieving compliance with current hazardous materials regulations; provides information and technical assistance on various hazardous material projects; performs other related duties as required. DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience.' Completion of two years of college with course work emphasis in chemistry, environmental engineering or industrial safety; two years of work experience in environmental quality control or hazardous wastes, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties. Experience with a regulatory agency and a background of personal computer literacy is desirable. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Ability to work in a wide variety of planning technician applications; ability to precisely follow written and oral instructions; ability to perform detailed work neatly and thoroughly; ability to deal effectively with the public.
