A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPER-
VISORS OF THE COUNTY OF KERN TO ORDER THE
CONSOLIDATION OF TWO CITY ELECTIONS, TO
WIT: THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE
OFFICE OF MAYOR AND THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO
THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY AMENDMENTS TO THE
CHARTER OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, WITH THE
STATE OF CALIFORNIA GENERAL ELECTION TO BE
HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1988 AND
SETTING FORTH THE LIST OF CANDIDATES FOR
MAYOR AND THE EXACT FORM OF THE MEASURES TO
BE VOTED UPON AT SUCH ELECTIONS AS THE SAME
ARE TO APPEAR ON THE BALLOT.
WHEREAS, Section 23302 of the Elections Code of the State
of California provides that whenever an election called by a City
for the submission of any proposition or office to be filled is to
be consolidated with a statewide election, and such proposition or
office to be filled is to appear upon the same ballot as that pro-
vided for such statewide election, the City shall at least 74 days
prior to the date of the election, file with the Board of
Supervisors, and a copy with the County Clerk, a resolution
requesting such consolidation and setting forth the exact form of
any proposition or office to be voted upon at such election, as
the same are to appear on the ballot; and
WHEREAS, on July 27, 1988, by Resolution No. 151-88, the
Council of the City of Bakersfield did pass and adopt resolution
calling the Genera]. Municipal Election for the Office of Mayor, to
be held in the City of Bakersfield on Tuesday, November 8, 1988;
and
WHEREAS, on July 27, 1988, by Resolution No. 152-88, the
Council of the City of Bakersfield did pass and adopt resolution
calling a Special Municipal Election to be held in the City of
Bakersfield on Tuesday, November 8, 1988, for the purpose of sub-
mitting to the electors of said City amendments to the Charter of
the City of Bakersfield set forth in said Resolution; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council that the two
elections above specified be consolidated with the State of
California General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 8,
1988.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
1. That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern is
hereby requested to make an order, pursuant to Sections 23302 et
seq. of the Elections Code of the State of California, consolidat-
ing both the General Municipal Election for the Office of Mayor
and the Special Municipal Election for the purpose of submitting
to the qualified electors of the City amendments to the Charter of
the City of Bakersfield with the State of California General
Election to be held Tuesday, November 8, 1988.
2. That the list of candidates for the Office of Mayor of
the City of Bakersfield, as the same is to appear on the ballot,
shall be as follows:

3. That the forms of the City of Bakersfield measures
to be voted upon at said consolidated election as the same is to
appear on the ballot, are as follows:

4. That said Board is further requested to provide that
within the City of Bakersfield, the election precincts, polling
places and voting booths shall, in every case, be the same and
there shall be only one set of election officers in each of the
precincts established in the City for consolidated City elections
and the General Election and that the exact form of the measures
to be voted upon, and the office to be filled shall be as set
forth in each ballot to be used at said elections within the City
of Bakersfield.
5. That said Board of Supervisors of Kern County is fur-
ther requested to cause the list of candidates for Mayor of the
City of Bakersfiel~ and the measures to be printed upon each of
the ballots to be ~ased in the City of Bakersfield at said General
Municipal Election and Special Municipal Election for charter
amendments consolidated as requested, within the City, including
absent voter ballots. Said Board is further requested to cause to
be set forth said office and measures on all sample ballots relat-
ing to both City elections called and consolidated, and to mail to
the qualified electors within the City said sample ballots and
voter's pamphlets and arguments, if any, relating to said elec-
tions, all in the time and in the form required by law, and to
provide absent voter ballots for said consolidated elections for
use by electors of the City of Bakersfield who may be entitled
thereto in the manner provided by law.
6. That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern
is hereby authorized to canvass, or cause to be canvassed, the
returns of said General Municipal Election for Mayor and Special
Municipal Election for Charter Amendments, and are requested to
certify the results of the canvass of said returns to the Council
of the City of Bakersfield, who shall thereupon declare the
results thereof.
7. That 'the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit
and file certified copies of this resolution with the Board of
Supervisors of Kern County and the County Clerk of Kern County,
as required by Section 23302 of the Elections Code of the State of
California.
