HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 135-88RESOLUTION NO. 135-88 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD RELATING TO ANTICIPATED DEMAND FOR FREEWAYS AND NEED TO SATISFY THE SAME. WHEREAS, the city of Bakersfield, County of Kern, Kern County of Governments and Golden Empire Transit District have been stud- ying the future of metropolitan Bakersfield through the planning process for the 2010 General Plan; and WHEREAS, the Circulation Element of the Draft 2010 General Plan maps a freeway system crucial to providing for efficient movement of goods and people through and around the metropolitan area of Bakersfield; and WHEREAS, Kern Council of Governments (Kern COG) has completed more focused studies of the Crosstown and Westside freeways; and WHEREAS, those future and said studies confirm the need routes; for and locations of WHEREAS, route studies of the Old River and Panama will be done by Kern COG this budget year; and freeways WHEREAS, the Commanche Freeway will be necessary as the final part of the system beyond 2010 and will be studied in more detail later; and WHEREAS, preservation of the future rights-of-way is sary if that system is ever to be built; and neces- WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bakersfield does not want to see our opportunity to serve the future public lost through lack of committment. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council supports right-of-way preservation, acquisition and road construction of the following segments of the freeway system: 1) Crosstown Freeway, 2) WestsidE! Freeway, 3) Old River Freeway, 4) Panama Freeway and for inclusion of the same in the County's Transportation Expenditure Plan. .......... 000 ..........
