A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING A MORATORIUM ON THE
SITING OF NEW HAZARDOUS WASTES FACILITIES
WITHIN KERN COUNTY AND SUPPORTING MEASURE
"B" ON THE JUNE 7, 1988 BALLOT.
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Bakersfield recog-
nizes that Kern County is becoming a target area for the disposal
of hazardous wastes; and
WHEREAS, the vast majority of hazardous wastes disposed
of in Kern County is being transported in from areas outside the
County; and

WHEREAS, the disposal of such hazardous wastes in Kern
results in a serious and permanent degradation of the qual-
life in Kern County and the City of Bakersfield.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Council of
the City of Bakersfield as follows:
The Council of the City of Bakersfield supports a mora-
torium on the permitting of all new hazardous waste facility
projects in Kern County until Kern County's Hazardous Waste Manage-
ment Plan is approw~d by the State of California; supports a ban
on any new hazardous waste facility projects in Kern County which
relies on deep-well injection of hazardous wastes; and supports
Measure "B" on the June 7, 1988 ballot.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on May 25, 1988 , by
