A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD APPROVING THE DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE
EDUCATION (D.A.R.E.) PROGRAM, A JOINT PROJECT
BETWEEN THE BAKERSFIELD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT AND
THE BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND APPROVING
AGREEMENT WITH THE BAKERSFIELD CITY SCHOOL
DISTRICT, AND AUTHORIZING MAYOR TO EXECUTE.
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield desires to undertake a
certain project known as the Drug Abuse Resistance Education
(D.A.R.E.) Program; and
WHEREAS, said program is to be implemented in the Bakers-
field City School District by the Bakersfield Police Department
funded in part from the 1987 Juvenile Justice and Delinquency
Prevention Program administered by the Office of Criminal Justice
Planning (hereinafter referred to as OCJP) and the Bakersfield
City School District (in accordance with PL 99-570, Drug Free
Schools and Communities Act of 1986).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield that the Chief of Police, R. O. Price, of the
Bakersfield Police Department is authorized to implement the
D.A.R.E. Program in the City Schools on behalf of the City of
Bakersfield; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Chief R. O. Price is author-
ized to hire two additional officers with funds provided by OCJP
Grant and from the Bakersfield City School District.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City enter into a con-
tract with the Bakersfield City School District requiring the
City School District to repay the City for the cost of officer
participation, and the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute
agreement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that grant funds and funds from
the Bakersfield City School District received hereunder shall not
be used to supplant expenditures controlled by this body.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
