HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 124-87RESOLUTION NO. 124-87 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD REQUESTING SUPPORT OF KERN COUNTY AS A SITE FOR TESTING OF PESTICIDES UNDER AB 1807. WHEREAS, there is a growing concern about the quality of air here in Kern County; and WHEREAS, the State of California has passed a law, AB 1807, that would begin to establish health standards for toxic chemicals in the air; and WHEREAS, the State of California will be testing certain sites during the fall quarter of this year for defoliants in the air and their concentrations; and and WHEREAS, agriculture is a major component of Kern County; WHEREAS, it is not known to what extent pesticide resi- dues exist locally in the air we breathe and what the health effects might be; and WHEREAS, factual and immediate information is the corner- stone to assist local governments in making reasonable policy decisions; and WHEREAS, the Bakersfield City Council is concerned about the quality of air here in our county. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Bakersfield City Council supports Kern County as a site for testing of pesticides under AB 1807 and that any information obtained will be available for use by the City of Bakersfield and Kern County in their planning. .......... o0o ..........
