A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF THE COUNTY OF KERN TO ORDER THE CONSOLIDATION
OF A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION WITH THE GENERAL
DISTRICT AND GOVERNING BOARD ELECTIONS TO BE HELD
ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1987, FOR THE PURPOSE OF
ELECTING COUNCILMEMBERS TO THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD IN WARDS 2, 5 AND 6.
WHEREAS, Section 23300 of the Elections Code of the State
of California provides that when two or more elections are called
to be held on the same day in territory that is, in part, the
same, they may be consolidated pursuant to Chapter 4, Part 2 of
Division 14 (commencing with Section 23300) of the Elections
Code, upon the order of the governing bodies calling tlhe elec-
tion; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Bakersfield by
Resolution No. _~_~2has called a General Municipal Election in
Wards 2, 5 and 6 to be held on the 3rd day of November, 1987, for
the purpose of electing Councilmembers to the City Council of the
City of Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, General District and Governing Board Elections
have been called to be held on Tuesday, the 3rd day of November,
1987, in territory that is in part the same as for the said City
election, to wit, in territory which includes all the City limits
of the City of Bakersfield.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield as follows:
1. That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern
is hereby requested to make an order, pursuant to Sections 23300
et seq. of the Elections Code of the State of California, consol-
idating the City of Bakersfield General Municipal Election called
for November 3, 1987, with the General District and Governing
Board Elections to be held on the same date.
2. That tlhe offices in the General Municipal Election
in Wards 2, 5 and 6 and the candidates therefor be set forth in
each ballot to be used at said General Municipal Election insofar
as the same is held within said territory affected by said order
of consolidation.
3. That the County Clerk is requested to conduct the
elections and is requested to provide within the territory
affected by request for order of consolidation, the election pre-
cincts, polling places and voting booths, which shall, in every
case, be the same and there shall be only one set of election
officers in each of the precincts for the General Municipal
Election hereby called and the General District and Governing
Board Elections to be held on the same day, and that the offices
in Wards 2, 5 and 6 in the City of Bakersfield and the candidates
therefor be set forth in each ballot to be used at said General
Municipal Election insofar as the same is held within said terri-
tory affected by said order of consolidation.
4. That said Board further requested to cause to be set
~orth said candidates, as provided, on all sample ballots relat-
ing to said City election, and to mail to the qualified electors
within the City, said sample ballots and voter's pamphlets relat-
ing to said election~ all in the time and in the form required by
law, and to provide ~bsent voter ballots for said election for
use by electors of the City of Bakersfield who may be entitled
thereto in the manner ~rovided by law.
5. That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern
is hereby authorized to canvass, or cause to be canvassed, the
returns of said General Municipal Election with respect to the
votes cast in the City and to the votes cast for the offices of
Councilmember in Wards 2, 5 and 6 of the City of Bakersfield in
said territory affected by the consolidation herein and to cer-
tify such canvass of the votes so cast to the Council.
6. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit
and file certified copies of this resolution with the Board of
Supervisors of Kern County and the County Clerk of Kern County.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on June 17, 1987 , by
