RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION
OF AN APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL FUNDS TO
THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION
FOR ASSISTANCE IN EXPANDING SEWER PLANT
NUMBER THREE.
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield has experienced substantial
growth over the past ]fears; and
WHEREAS, this growth has been concentrated in the Southwest por-
tion of Metropolitan Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, this growth and development has resulted in increased
demand on the area's infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, this increased demand requires expansion of public faci-
lities; and
WHEREAS, the U.S.. Department of Commerce, Economic Development
Administration (EDA) makes funds available on a competitive basis to
assist local government in improving public facilities to encourage
economic development and job creation; and
WHEREAS, the Kern County Overall Economic Development Program
board has placed a high priority on this project in its rating of all
projects in the County; and
WHEREAS, after reviewing a required pre-application, EDA has
invited to City to submit a final application for review in the
amount of $1.5 million; and
WHEREAS, a February deadline has been set by EDA for response to
this invitation;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE:
The City Manager is authorized to execute and submit, in the name
of the City of Bakersfield, an application to the Economic Development
Administration in th~ amount of $1.5 million to financially assist in
the expansion of Sewer Plant #3.
