HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 134-86RESOLUTION NO. 134-86 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING BAKERSFIELD AS THE SITE FOR THE 1988 CALIFORNIA POLICE OLYMPICS. WHEREAS, the California Police Olympics ranks as one of the largest athletic participant sporting events in the world, second only to the recent games of the XXIII Olympiad held in Los Angeles; and WHEREAS, the California Police Olympics encourages phys- ical fitness and promotes athletic competition within the law enforcement community throughout the State of California; and WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield possesses all the nec- essary facilities and accommodations to maintain the high caliber of competition that would be required by the California Police Olympics; and WHEREAS, Bakersfield is a community of sports enthusi- asts and host of numerous sports events of both local and national stature; and WHEREAS, Bakersfield has three local network television stations that provide extensive coverage of local events; and WHEREAS, the climate of the City of Bakersfield is con- sistently sunny and warm and is especially conducive to the con- duct of outdoor activities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Bakersfield urges the California Police Athletic Federation to choose Bakersfield as the site of its 1988 California Police Olympics, and pledges its full support and pro- motion and looks forward to being a host to this prestigious event. .......... o0o ..........
