HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 189-97RESOLUTION NO. ! $ 9 ' 9 7 RESOLUTION DETERMINING THAT FOLLOW SPOT LIGHTS FOR THE NEW BAKERSFIELD ARENA AND THE BAKERSFIELD CONVENTION CENTER CANNOT BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE USUAL BIDDING PROCEDURES AND AUTHORIZING THE FINANCE DIRECTOR TO DISPENSE WITH BIDDING THEREFOR, NOT TO EXCEED $130,000. WHEREAS, the Bakersfield Convention Center currently owns follow spot lights manufactured by Strong International, Inc.; and WHI~,REAS, the new arena will require the purchase of approximately 10 new follow spot lights from the Furnishing, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) budget; and WHEREAS, the Bakersfield Convention Center will require the purchase of approximately 2 new follow spot lights from the current fiscal year Capital Improvement budget; and WHEREAS, maintenance of similar equipment and inventory of parts would benefit the City; and WHEREAS, the operation of similar equipment will require no additional staff training; and WHEREAS, the Finance Director has determined, and has recommended that this Council find, spot lighting can only be reasonably obtained from one vendor, Strong International, Inc., because of the necessity to integrate the equipment into an existing system, and recommends that this Counc'd authorize dispensing with bidding therefor in accordance with Section 3.20.060 D of the Bakersfield Municipal Code. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: 1. The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference. The Council hereby finds that spot lights only be reasonably obtained from one vendor because the Bakersfield Convention Center currently owns spot lights from a particular vendor and operation and maintenance of similar equipment is a benefit to the City. The Finance Director is authorized to dispense with the bidding therefor and to negotiate the purchase of same from Strong International, Inc., not to exceed $130,000.
