A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING THE ANTELOPE VALLEY AS
THE LOCATION FOR THE SUPERCONDUCTING SUPER
COLLIDER.
WHEREAS, the California Site Selection Committee has
identified the Antelope Valley as a possible site for the pro-
posed Superconducting Super Collider, the world's largest scien-
tific machine; and
WHEREAS, the location of the Superconducting Super
Collider in the Antelope Valley has the potential to generate $1
to $1 million in annual economic spinoffs; will be a magnet for
professional and technical talent; will provide employment for
2,500 people with another 500 visiting scientists from around the
world working at the site; and

WHEREAS, despite its size, the Superconducting Super
is expected to be environmentally benign;
WHEREAS, the location of the Superconducting Super
in the Antelope Valley will provide the incentive for
Collider
developing a competitive edge in high-tech industries and further
enhance the entire Antelope Valley as an important scientific
research center to not only the United States but the entire
world.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the
city of Bakersfield does hereby support the proposed site of the
Superconducting Super Collider in the Antelope Valley.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 19th day of February , 19 86 , by the
following vote:
