A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING EFFORTS TO DEVELOP A
LOCAL TRANSPORTATION MEASURE.
WHEREAS, there is insufficient funding available to meet current and
projected transportation related needs throughout the cities and unincorporated area of
Kern County; and,
WHEREAS, an important source of new funding that could be dedicated
solely to meeting our local transportation funding needs is a local transportation
measure; and,
WHEREAS, development of such a local transportation measure would
include provisions that resulting funding would only be used for transportation purposes
here in the cities and unincorporated area of Kern County and could not be diverted to
other uses or other areas in California; and,
WHEREAS, if approved, a local transportation measure would establish
eligibility for additional state monies for transportation projects that Kern County would
otherwise not be able to obtain.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield, as follows:
1. The City Council continues its support of the work to develop a
local transportation measure through a cooperative effort by Kern County cities, Kern
Council of Governments, Kern County Citizens for Quality Transportation, community
groups throughout Kern County and our citizens.
2. The Clerk of the Board of Supervisors shall send copies of this
resolution to Kern County cities, Kern Council of Governments and Kern County
Citizens for Quality Transporation.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and
adopted, by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a special joint City/County meeting
thereof held on February 28, 2005, by the following vote:
