HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 106-05 RESOLUTION NO. 1 0 6 - 0 5 RESOLUTION DETERMING THAT CERTAIN MOTOROLA RADIO EQUIPMENT CANNOT BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE USUAL BIDDING PROCEDURES AND AUTHORIZING THE FINANCE DIRECTOR TO DISPENSE WITH BIDDING THEREFORE, NOT TO EXCEED $96,000. WHEREAS, the CITY of Bakersfield is in need of additional radio equipment; and WHEREAS, the CITY currently has Motorola radio equipment in service for the Police Department for the past twenty years; and WHEREAS, the CITY uses the Motorola/National Security Administration proprietary encryption system. This encryption system ensures that radio users are protected from eavesdropping through encryption of their signals. Existing police radios currently use the Motorola encryption system and new radios must be compatible with the current radio system; and WHEREAS, the CITY desires to integrate the Motorola radio equipment into the existing City radio communications system; and WHEREAS, compatible radio equipment is only available from Motorola Communications, Inc; and WHEREAS, the Finance Director recommends the Council find said Motorola radio equipment can only be reasonably obtained from Motorola Communications, Inc. because of restricted availability of the equipment and because of the need to integrate the product into an existing City system, and recommends that the Counci' dispense with the bidding, in accordance with subsection D.2 of Section 3.20.060 of the Bakersfield Municipa' Code. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: 1. The above-recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference. 2. The Council hereby finds that the purchase of the portable equipment can only be reasonably obtained from one vendor (Motorola Communications, Inc) because of the restricted availability of such equipment and because of the necessity to successfully integrate such equipment into the existing City system. 3. The Finance Director is authorized to dispense with bidding therefore and to negotiate the purchase of same, not to exceed $96,000. --Page 1 of 2 pages-- «. 'òMê1' o ~ >- - ......
