HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 62-85RESOLUTION NO. 62-85 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY BILL 1327 PROVIDING FOR THE ELIMINATION OF THE FIFTY PERCENT (50%) REGISTERED VOTER PROTEST RULE. WHEREAS, unincorporated islands within a city are a det- riment to the efficient operation of both cities and counties; and WHEREAS, within the city of Bakersfield several unincor- porated islands exist; and WHEREAS, present statutes provide that annexation of such islands may be blocked by a fifty percent (50%) protest by registered voters living within the unincorporated area; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1327 will eliminate the fifty percent (50%) protest rule; and WHEREAS, the elimination of the protest rule will pro- vide for easier incorporation of unincorporated islands within a city resulting in greater government efficiency and enhanced political representation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the city of Bakersfield that the city Council supports Assembly Bill 1327 providing for the ,elimination of the fifty percent (50%) registered voter protest rule relative to annexation of unincorporated islands within city boundaries. ........... o0o ..........
