A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SUBMITTAL OF WASTE
TIRE CLEANUP MATCHING GRANT APPLICATION
WHEREAS, the people of the State of California have enacted Assembly Bill 2108
(Mazzoni, 1996) that requires the retailer seller of new tires to collect a fee of $0.25 per tire and to remit
$0.225 of the fee to the state for deposit in the California Tire Recycling Management Fund; and
WHEREAS, the people of the State of California have enacted Senate Bill 937 (Vuich,
1990) that allows the California Integrated Waste Management Board to allocate monies from the
California Tire Recycling Management Fund to pay the costs of cleanup, abatement, or other remedial
action related to the disposal of used whole tires; and
WHEREAS, the California Integrated Waste Management Board allocated $200,000 to
Fiscal Year 1997/98 Local Government Waste Tire Cleanup Matching Grants Program; and
WHEREAS, said procedures established by the California Integrated Waste Management
Board require the applicant to certify by resolution the approval of the application before submission of
said application to the state; and
WHEREAS, the applicant will enter into agreement with the State of California for
development of the project; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Bakersfield authorizes the
submittal of an application to the California Integrated Waste Management Board for a Local Government
Waste Tire Cleanup Matching Grant. The City Mana~ler of the City of Bakersfield or his designee is
hereby authorized and empowered to execute in the name of the City of Bakersfield all necessary
applications, contracts, agreement and amendments hereto for the purposes of securing grant funds to
implement and carry out the purpose specified in the grant application.
