A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD REQUESTING A SPECIAL MEETING
BETWEEN THE MAYORS OF KERN COUNTY CITIES AND
THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO DISCUSS THE
IMPLEMENTATION OF CHANGES TO THE WASTE
DISPOSAL SYSTEM
WHEREAS, The City of Bakersfield has received correspondence from
the Kern County Waste Management Department proposing changes to the waste
disposal system in Kern County, including a "pay as you throw" gate fee program; and
WHEREAS, These proposed changes to the waste disposal system will
impact cities throughout Kern County; and
WHEREAS, Cities in Kern County desire universal refuse collection in the
urbanized unincorporated areas next to cities, in order to discourage illegal dumping of
refuse and to protect the public health; and
WHEREAS, The Kern County Association of Cities has determined the
most effective way to address these impacts is through a meeting between the Mayors
of Kern County Cities and the Board of Supervisors.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Bakersfield requests that the Kern County Board of Supervisors agree to meet in a
special meeting with the mayors of Kern County Cities to discuss these waste disposal
issues in order to bring them to positive resolution.
