HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 122-01(17) RESOLUTION NO. _L 2 2 - 0: 1 (/7) AMENDMENT NO. 17 TO RESOLUTION NO. 122-01 SETTING SALARIES AND RELATED BENEFITS FOR OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE GENERAL SUPERVISORY, POLICE SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT UNITS AND ADOPTING SALARY SCHEDULE AND RELATED BENEFITS FOR ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY WHEREAS, Resolution No. 122-01 sets salaries and related benefits for employees of the General Supervisory and Management Units. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield that effective immediately following Council action, the Salary Schedule, a part of Resolution No. 122-01, is hereby amended as follows: 1. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The follo\Ying typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of this class. They are descriptive, not limiting. Essential Duties: · Drafts ordinances, charter amendments, resolutions, contracts, deeds, leases, permits, licenses and other legal instruments · Assists in the preparation and gives legal advice to City Council, boards, commissions and committees, as well as City staff · Reviews and interprets federal, state, county and cit)" statutes, ordinances, rules, regulations, court decisions, laws and other legal authority · Prepares or assists in the preparation of cases for hearings and represents the city in such hearings · Prepares or assists in the preparation of cases for condemnation proceedings · Prepares or assists in the preparation of cases for civil litigation · Prepares and prosecutes criminal matters · Conducts legal research as needed DISTI:'\GUlSHI1'G CHARACTERISTICS: Associate Attorney is an entry-level classification \\ith no experience required. Incwnbents act as deputies to the City Attorney and perfonn a variety of professional legal duties. Incwnbems are expected to use professional judgment and skill in the perfonnance of assignments. This class differs from Deputy City Attorney I and II in that the latter are required to have previous legal experience and are assigned a variety of more complex legal problems with less supervlslon. MINIMUM OUALIFICATIONS: Knowlede:e of: · Knowledge of legal research methods · Knowledge of rules of evidence and general statutory and case law · Computer applications related to work Ability to: · Ability to communicate with others, make sound decisions and to assimilate and understand infonnation in a manner consistent with the essential job functions · Ability to prepare cases, secure necessary infonnation and interview witnesses · Ability to draft and prepare legal documents · Ability to establish effective working relationships Trainine: and Experience: · Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree · No prior legal experience necessary Licenses.
