AN ORDINANCE ADDING SUBSECTION P. TO SECTION
16.28.170 OF TITLE 16, AMENDING SECTION 17.04.410 OF
TITLE 17, AND REPEALING SUBSECTION C. OF SECTION
17.08.180 OF TITLE 17 OF THE BAKERSFIELD MUNICIPAL
CODE RELATING TO REVERSED CORNER, KEY LOTS,
AND FENCES.
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield initiated a proposal to amend Titles 16
and 17 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code; specifically, adding Subsection P. to Section
16.28.170 of Title 16, amending Section 17.04.410 of Title 17, and repealing Subsection
C. of Section 17.08.180 of Title 17 relating to reversed corner, key lots, and fences; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission through its Secretary set Thursday,
January 15, 1998 at the hour of 5:30 p.m in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 1501
Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, California, as the time and place for a public hearing before
said Commission on said ordinance, and notice of the public hearing was given in the
manner prescribed in the Municipal Code and the California Government Code; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission adopted Resolution No.11-98
recommending approval of the proposed ordinance amendments and forwarded its
recommendation to the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the City Council through its City Clerk set Wednesday,
February 25, 1998 at the hour of 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 1501
Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, California, as the time and place to consider said ordinance;
and
WHEREAS, the ordinance was found to be exempt from the provisions of
CEQA and the law and regulations as set forth in CEQA and the City of Bakersfield's
CEQA Implementation Procedures have been duly followed by city staff and this Council;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council, at said public meeting, considered the
ordinance, all relevant facts, and public testimony, and the Council adopted the findings
made by the Planning Commission as contained in the Commission's Resolution No. 11-
98.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield as follows:
ORIGINAL
SECTION 1.
Subsection P. is hereby added to Section 16.28.170 read as follows:
Reversed corner lots. Reversed corner lots shall not be allowed
except where required to comply with other ordinances, codes, and
design principles of subdivision. In no instances shall an interior lot
be bordered by more than one reversed corner lot.
SECTION 2.
Section 17.04.410 is hereby amended to read as follows:
Lot, key.
"Key lot" is the first interior lot to the rear of a reversed corner lot whether it
is separated by an alley or not,
SECTION 3.
Subsection C. of Section 17.08.180 is hereby repealed.
SECTION 4.
This ordinance shall be posted in accordance with the Bakersfield Municipal
Code and shall become effective thirty (30) days from and after the date of its passage.

side street line of which is substantially a
continuation of the front lot line of lhe first lot to
its rear. (Prior code § 17.08.3'/0).
· 17.04.410 Lot, key.
"Key lot" is the first lot to the rem' of a reversed
comer lot whether it is separated by an alley or
not. (Ord. 2694 § I (pan), 1982: prior code §
17.08.360).
