~/q ORDINANCE REGULATING THE LAYING 0F LATERAL
SEWERS IN THE CITY OF B~X.,_~R. SFIELD.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CO'0]~CIL OF T.'.~E CITY OF B~XERSFIELD,
as follows:
SECTION 1.
The City of Bakersfield, its duly authorized s~ents, ser-
vants end employees sLhall have the exclusive right to make connec'~-.-
tions with the public sewers in the streets and alleys of said City
of Bakersfield between the curb l~nes and to lay laterals therefrom
through the streets and alleys of said City to the curb line.
SECTION 2.
Any person who shall require the construction of a house
connectin~ sewer between the street sewer and the curb line shall
make written application therefor at the office of the Superintendent
of Streets Of the City of Bakersfield at least ten (10) days before
the connection is required an~ shall deposit with said Superintendent
of Stre. et-~ the fee for such sewer, as hereinafter established.
The Superintendent of Streets shall thereupon cause such connecting
sewer late;ral to be constructed from the street sewer to the curb
line' by workmen employed in his department in accordance with the
ordinance, rules and reg. ulations prescr. ibed therefor.
SECTION 3.
The following.'., fees are hereby .fixed and. established for
the const~:uction by the City of Bakersfield of lateral sewers between
street sewers end curb 1 ines:
For sewers not in excess of three feet in depth the sum
of seventy-five cents (-7~) per lineal foot, for each f6ot or
fraction of a foot in depth in excess'of three fe'et fifteen cents
(.1~) per lineal foot together with twenty-five (.2~) cents per
square foot for each end every foot or fr~ction of a foot of street

each and-every foot or fraction of a foot of street Surface torn up
on streets improved with macadam, asphaltic,. concrete, cement con-
crete, or other hard surface pavement. At the time of making the
application as provided by section 2 hereof, the applicant shall
deposit in the office of the Superintendent of Streets one dollar
end. seventy cents ($1.'70) perY.lineal foot for each and every foot
covered by such application where the proposed connection is to be
made on an unimproved street or on a street improved with an oil
and screening weariDlE surface or shell deposit Two dollars and
twenty cents ($2.20) per lineal foot for each and every foot covered
by such application where the proposed connection is to be made on
a street paved with macadam, aspbaltic concrete, cement concrete,
or other hard surface pavement, and said deposit so. made shall be
re,rained by said Superintendent of Streets and upon the. completion
of proposed. work if any portion of the deposit so made shall remain
in excess of the fees herein provided, such excess shall upon the
completion of the proposed work be refunded to the person deposit.ing
the same and such portion of said deposit as is required. to cover
the fees herein provided shall upon the completion of said work
be paid by the Superintendent'of Streets into the treasury of the
City of B~'ersfield. At the time and. in the manner that he deposits
other moneys received by him.
SECTION 4.
It is hereby declared to be unlawful for any person, firm
or corporation other than employees or sg. ents of the City of Bakers-
fie,'ld, to construct any lateral. between a street sewer and the curb
line in the City of Bakersfield, and any person violating any of " '--."'
the provisions of this ordinance is hereby declared to be guilty of
a misdemeanor, and shall be punished. by a fine of not to exceed one
hundred ($100.00) dollars, or by imprisonment for not exceeding
thirty (30) days in the County Jail of the County of Kern, or by
both such fine and impriso.,.nment,.
