OF ORDINANCE NO. '190 NEW-SERIES
AND ADDING A NEW SECTION THERETO
TO BE KNOWN AS SECTION 53a.
"' BE I'T ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF.THE CITY OF.'BAKERSFIELD,
as follows:
SECTION 1 ;' . · - -
· ' That Section'33 of OrdinanCe'No. 190 'New Series regulating
and imposing municipa~ 'licenses,'.be and the same is hereby amended
to read as fo.llows: ·
SECTION 53. ~ "
The following words and phrases shall have the following
m~eaning as. is 'herein set forth: '.
· (a) A "SECOND HAND DEALER"' is defined to be any Person, firm '
or .CorporatiOn who ·carries on, conducts, maintains or engages in:
the' business of buying or selling or exchanging or otherwise deal-
ing in or acquiring any article or thing that has been sold or
used' before; provided this definition- shall not include the term

(b) For the purpose of this ordinance a "SECONDHAND FURNITURE
DEALER" is defined ~o be any 'person, lien or corporation-dealing
in, 'buying, selling. or '.exchanging 'secondhand household furniture
.or household goods only; provided, however, -t'ha~ this definition·
shalr'not include any person,. firm or Corpora.tion.who handles or
deals 'in secondhand household ~U~'~it~e"or household goods only
as an' incident t0 his regular'.businesS. or one who COnducts or'
maintains 'a-furniture store and .r;~_..~' whose principal business con-
si'stS of .~U. ying, 'selling or. dealing in new or unused household
furniture or household goods·.' "

"(C).: FOr the'purpose of this ordinance a "~AWN BROKER" is
defined to be ,any person, firm or corporation who carries on,
.. conducts, maintains or engages in the business-of loaning money for
interest for. himself or any other person, firm or-corporation, and
reCeiving'goods, wares, or merchandise as a pledge or.'pawn in
security for the payment of same, or who purchases articles of
personal property andf re-sells or agrees'to re-sell such articles
-' to vendors or their assigns.at prices agreed.upon at Or before
. .~he time .of Such 'purchase.
'(d)- For the .purpose 'of this ordinance a "JUNK IEALER" is
defined'to be any. person~ firm or.corporation .who carries on, conducts,
maintains or engages' in the business of bUying~.selling, or other-
wise 8~al'ing. in Or.'.acquiring 'old. bottleS,.scraps,. p~e~es o~"'metal,
'rags, 'old rope, 0r~any old article not to be used in its former
'state or condition.
"'(e) For the purpose Of this. 0r'dinanCe a'"JUN~ COLLECTOR" is
defined-to be any per.son who goes from.houSe to house, or.from
'-place t9 'place, gathering, collectihg,'buying,'.selling or otherwise
dealing in or acquiring any old bottleS, scrapS, pieces of metal,.
rags., old rope or. any old article not bto.be used in' its former
state o~ condition.
SECTION 2.
That Ordinance' No. 190 New .Series regulating .and-imposing -
municipal .licenses be and the same is hereby mended by adding a

of Junk dealer or .Junk collector, the sum of' twenty-five dollars

($25.00) per quarter and for eact~ 'vehicle for collecting Junk,· the
sum of ten dollars ($10.00) per quarter. "'
(o) For keeping, conducting or carrying on 'the business o~
pawn'.broker, the sum of fifty· dollars ($56.00) per quarter.
SECTION
All ordinances .and parts of ordinances in conflict here-
with be and the same .are 'hereby expressly repealed.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the fore~ing Ordinance was passed
and adopted by the Oouncil of the City'of Bakersfleld on t~ '~
