'AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE SALE
OF UNINSPECTED P-~EATS. "-~.~A~
WHEREAS the immediate preservation of the public he-ai~'''~
property and safety requires the p~ssage of this ordinance
NOW HEREFORE be it ordained by the Council of the City of

Bakersfield, as follows:
It shall be unlawfu~ for any person, firm or corporatim ,
or:%he agent or employee of any person, firm or corporation. to

sell or exchange for other things of value within the City of
Bakersfield, any beef, veal, mutton, por~ or meet food product
for h6man consumption unless such beef, veal, mutton, pork or
meat fobd product shall first have been inspected by an agent
~.'othe"Californi.a Department of Agriculture in accordance with
the terms of the California Meat Imds.pection Law ( Chapter ~52
Statutes 1921), and be aring the stamp "California Inspected '~
a.~d Passed" or "U. S. Inspected and Passed" or a ~tamp of an

approved municipal meat inspection department.
Any person, firm-or corporation, or the agent or emp~gyee
of any person, firm or corporation who violates any provisions
of Section 1 of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor
and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not more than Five
Hundred Dollars ($500.00) or imprisoned ~n the CoUnty Jail of
Kern County for.~..ore than thirty days (30) or by both such fine

This Ordinance is designated for the immediate preserve-
tion of the public health, property and safety and is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and shall be in full force
