0RDINANCEo.~N0. 189 NEW SERIES OF THE CITY OF
BAERSFIELD~ AND.cALL OTHER ORDINANCES A~ND
PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.
BE IT 0RDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD,
as follows:
SECTION 1.
It shall be unlawful for the owner, lessee, agent or manager
of any lot, piece or parcel of land within the .City of Bakersfield, after
~.~t. eem'. (16). day's notice has been given as hereinafter provided, to
have, permit or allow any weeds which bear seeds of a wingy or dovmy
nature, or attain such a large growth as to become a fire menante when
dry, or a menace to the public health, or which are otherwise noxious,
dangerous or unsightly, to grow or remain on sai d lot, piece, or par-
cel of land within said City, or upon the streets, parking or sidewalk
spaces in front of or adjoining sssid lot, piece or parcel of land.
SECTION 2.
It shall be the duty of the City Engineer at any time he
discovers that any owner, lessee, agent or manager of any lot or piece
or parcel of land within the.City of Bakers~field, has on said property
any weeds which bear seeds. of a wingy or downy nature, or attain such
a large growth as to become a fire menace when dry, or. a'menace to the
public health, or which are otherwise noxious, dangerous or unsightly,
'to immediately post on said property in a conspicuous place and mail
to the said owner, or the person in whose name said property is assessed
by the.City of· Bakersfield, at his or her address, as it appears in the
assessor's office' in the City of Bakersfield,. a notice substantially

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that Ordinance No, / ~'··-~ ·°'

misdemeanor for any owner, lessee, agent or manager
of any lot, piece or parcel of land, within the City
of Bakersfield to have or permit or allow any weeds
which bears seeds of a wingy or downy nature, or attains
such a large growth as to become a fire menace when
dry, or a menace to the·public health or which are
otherwise noxious, dangerous or unsightly·, t'o.~'.grow
or remain on said lot, piece or parcel of land, and ·~"'
shall upon a violation thereof be deemed guilty of
a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not exceeding·
three hundred (~SO0.O0) dollars or imprisonmeg=in
the county jail for a period not exceeding ninety
(90) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
That unless the weeds growing on the property de-
scribed as
SECTION 3.
action will be commenced against you.
Any violation of the foregoing ·sections shall be deemed a
misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a
fine not exceeding three hundred ($~00.00) dollars or imprisonment
in the County jail for a period not exceeding ninety (90) days, or by
both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 4.
.. That Ordinance No. 189 New Series of the City ..of Bakersfield,
entitled "An Ordinance providing the method by which the property
owners~ affected by an act of the Legislature of the State of California,
entitled ~An Act authorizing municipalities to declare noxious or
dangerous. weeds growing upon the streets or sideW~'.ks or upon primate
property within municipalities, to be a pu~nlic nuisance, creating.a
lien upon the property.fronting upon such streets or sidewalks or upon
which such nuisance exists for the cost of abating the same' may pay
.. ~he. ~ity of Bakersfield the cost for fdestroyin.g and removing noxious
and dangerous weeds growing upon their property, and repealing'Ordinance
No. 360 of the City of Bakersfield, and ~ll other Ordinances ~4u.d'parts
of 6rdinances in conflict herewith", ~nd all other ordinanceS.and parts
of ordinances in conflict herewith, be and the same are expressly re-
pealed.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoihg Ordinance was passed
