WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Bakersfield did on
the 5th day 0f April, 1926 receive a.written petition asking that
certain new territory described in said petition be annexed to said
City.of Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS~ said territory so proposed to be annexed to said
City of Bakersfield is situated in the' County of Kern, State of Cal-
.i~ornia and is contiguous to the City of Bakersfield and said peti-
tion contains a description of said territory in words and figures
as is heroinafter in this ordinance described;'and
WHEREAS, said petition is signed b~. one-fourth (,) a~
more in number of the qualified electors residing within the afore-
said district as is shown by the registration of voters of the
County of. Kem, in~.~hich County said territory is situated; and
.WHEREAS, said new territory proposed to be annexed to
and incgrporated in and made a part of such municipal corporation
does not form any part of any municipal corporation and it appears
that said territory is inhabited and that the occupants thereof are
.bo~a fide resiaents of said new territory;.and.- ._
WHEREAS, said petition does not contain a'request that
such new territory and the property. therein be' after such annexa-
tion subject to taxation equally with the property within the City
of Bakersfield, to pay any specified portion of any bonded indebted-

SECTION le
That a special.election be and the same '~hereby called
· to be held'On Tuesday the llthday of May, 1926, in aai~ new terri-
.torT hereinbefore mentioned ,.and proposed to be annexed tO the City
of Bakersfield, for the purpose of submitting to the':~ectors re-
siding in said new territory the question whether said new territory
as heroinafter described shall be annexed to and incorporate~ in and
made a part of the City of Bakersfield.
That the new territorTwhich is proposed to be annexed to,
incorporated in and to be made a part of the City of Bakersfield
and designated the "SOUTH BAKERSFIELD DISTRICT NO. 2" and the terri-
tory in which such special election is hereby called and shall be
held is situated in the County of Kern, State of California and is
more particularly bounded and described as follows:
Beginning at a point in the southerly line of 4th Street
where the same is intersected by the extension southerly
of the center line of I Street, and running thence east-
erly along the southerly line of 4thStreet to the east-
-.erly line of Union Avenue; thence southerly along the
easterly line of Union Avenue to the southerly line of
Brundage Lane; thence westerly along the southerly llne
of Brundage Lane to the point of intersection with t~
extension southerly of the said center line of I Street;
thence northerly along the extension southerly of the
said center line of I Street to the southerly line of
4th Street and the point of beginning.
SECTION 2.
That said new terrltoryhereinbefore and in said petition
described is hereby designated as "SOUTH BAKERSFIELD. DISTRICT NO.2"
and said territor~ shall be indicated, designated and referred to by
the'name of "South Bakersfield District No. 2" upon the ballots to
be used at said spectal--.elect~on .at which such _a.nn.~Xation of such
territory to the City of Bakersfield is submitted to the electors
of said territory and the name of "South Bakersfield District
whenever used in the notice of said special election hereby called
in Said territox~y and in any and all proceedings for the annexation
of such te~rit0ry to the City of Bakersfield shall mean and be
construed to mean the territory here inbefore and in said. petition
described and so proposed by ~aid petition to be annexed to said

ersfield District No. 2 Annexation Election Precinct No. 1" and the
place at which the polls will be opened in the said new territory
hereinbef0re described and proposed to be annexed to the City of
Bakersfield is hereby established and designated and the following
names or election officers therefore are hereby appointed, to-wit:
SOUTH BAwERSFIELD DISTRICT NO. 2
ANNEXATION ELECTION PRECINCT NO. 1.
Comprising of the property more particularly described as follows:
SECTION 4.
Beginning at a point in the southerly line of 4th Street
where the same is intersected by the extension southerly
of the center line of I Street, and running thence east-
erly along the southerly'line of 4th Street to the east-
erly line of Union Avenue; thence southerly along the
easterly line of Union Avenue to the southerly line of

porations, for the incorporation of such annexed territox~ in and as
a part thereof,' and for the districting,government and municipal con-

amendator7 thereof and Supplememta~$hereto. The qualified electors
resi,~ing in Said new territory so proposed to be annexed to said City
of Bakersfield are hereby directed to vote upon the question of the
annexation of said territory to said City of Bakersfield by stamping
a cross (x) in the voting square after the printed word "YES" on the
ballots to be used at said .special election~ or by stamping a cross
(x) in the voting square after the printed word "NO" on such ballots.
If .an' elector· shall stamp a cross (x) in the voting square after the
printed word "YES", the vote of such· elector shall be counted in favor
of the annexation 'of the said new territory to the City of Bakersfield;
and if an elector shall stamp a cross (x) in the voting s'quare after
· the printed word ."NO"; the vote of said elector shall be counted
.against such annexations
SECTION S.
The City Clerk is hereby directed.to give.notice of said
special election by publication of a notice thereof in The Daily
Midway Driller, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and
published outside of'the City of Bakersfield and printed and pub-
.lished in the County of Kern, and such notice shall· be published
once a week for four (4) successive weeks preceding such election.
Such notice shall distinctly state the date of such special elec-
tion, ~nd ~he'~r~s'ition-~o'~'S~i~'~t'~h"~p-ec'~al'.elect~on,
· to-wit: That it is propose~ to annex to, incorporate in and make
a part of 'the City of Bakersfield the aforesaid territory souCht
to be annexed, a~.d shall specifically describe the boundaries there-

SECTION 6,
That the proceedings for the annexation of said new terri-
tory heretnbefore described to the City of Bakersfield have been
commenced, and shall be had A-d taken under and in accordance with
the provisions of an act of the Legislature of the State of Calif-
ornia,entitled "An act to provide for the alteration of the boundar-
ies of and for the annexation of territor7 to municipal corporations,
for the incorporation of such annexed territory in and as a part
thereof, and for the districting, goveTnment andmunicipal control
of such annexed territory," approved June 11, 1913, and all acts
amendstory thereof and supplemental ·thereto, and no other, which said
act is designated and referred to as the "Annexation Act of 1913."

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was regularly
introduced, passed and-adopted at a regular meeting of the Council
