health, safety, peace, comfort md convenience of the people
of the City of Bakersfield recuire an ordinance to facilitate
the enforcement of the health ~nd sanitary laws of the State
of California, and the health and sanitary regulations of the
City of Bakers field affecting baz~ber shops, and the prevention
of the spread of contagious diseases,

~ITY OF BAK~RSFIEID, as fo~.lo~:~s:
SECT ION 1.
All barber shops or places where barbering', as defined
by the Statutes of the State of California, is practiced, shall
be and remain closed on the fob. Rowing legal holidays: New Year' s:
Day, Decoration Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Armistice Day,
Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day; and when ar~ such holiday
shall fall on SundRy, on the ~vionday fo~llowing immediately thereafter.
SECTION 2.
On all days o~her than those mentioned in Section I hereof,
no barber ~ops or places where barbering, as defined by the Statutes
of the State of Califo~'nia, is practiced, shall be open for the
business of barbcri~g, ~s so defined, prior to 8 o'clock A. M.;
nor shall ~ny b~rber shops or places where barbering, as defined
by the St.~tutes of the State of California, is practiced, remain
open, nor shall any barbering service be rendered therein, after
8 o' clock P. M., except as hereinafter provided.
SECTION 5.
On Saturdays, end on all' days preceding an;' of the legal
holidays en~nerated in Sectio~ i hereof, barber shops and other
places where barbering, as defined by the Statutes of the State
'Sf Cslifonlia, is practiced, may remain open until 7 o'clock P'o~.
SEC TION 4.
Nothing in this ordinance shall be construed or held to
prohibit the doing of any barbaring or rendering any barbering
service to, or for any person after the closing hours specified
in Sections 2 and 3 of t3~is ordinance, provided suct~. person demand-
ing or receiving said barbaring service was in said barber shop or
place where barbering is practiced, and waiting for barbaring ser-
vice prior to the legal closing time fixed by such sections for
that day.
SECTION 5.
It shall be unlawful for any persin, firm or corporation
to keep open for business any barbe~. shop or place where barbering
is practiced, or to engage i~ or practice 0arbering, as defined
by the Statutes of t~e Stateof California, at any time upon the
days enumerated in Section i of this ordinance, or earlier or
later than the hours specified in ~he foregoing sections at the
t~e, and on the days therein specified; and it shall be unlawful
fo~ any person to admit anyone into any such place of business for
any barber service during the prohibited dsys or duping the pro-
hibited hours enumerated in any section of this ordi~ance.
SECTION 8.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the
provisions of this ordinance sUe all be guilty of a misdemeanor and
upon cm~viction t~ereof, shall be subject to a fine of not more
than one hundred ($100.00) dolle~s, o~' by imprisonment in the
County Jail for not more than thirty (~0) days, or by both such
fine. and imprisonment.
S~CTION V.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby expressly repealed'.
SECT ION 8.
This emergency measure shall be in effect immediately
upon its passage by the City Council of t~ City of Bakersfield.
