AN EI~.TERGENCY ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC
AT THE ~'NTI~HSECTIOH OF 18TH STREET AND
SONORA STREET, ~AKING A VIOLATION HEREOF
A I.,~ISDEiIEA?~OR, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY
THEREFOR.
I~KEREAS, the Public Uorks Department of the State of
California has commenced the construction and widening of the
underpass under the ATCHISON, TOPEKA AND SANTA FE P~ILWAY at
Union Avenue; and,
UPLEREAS, it is necessary to divert the traffic East on
Eureka Street and South on Sonora Street; and,
!~EREAS, the public safety and convenience requires the
passage of an emergency ordinance regulating said traffic,
NOW, THE~FOHE, be it ordained by the Council of the
City of-Bakersfield, as follows:
SECTION 1.
That the intersection of Sonora Street with^lSth Stree~
is hereby declared to be a dangerous crossing, where the traffic
is and will be heavy and continuous, and vehicles traveling in an
easterly and westerly direction on said^lSth Street shall stop at
the intersection of saidAlSth Street with Sonora Street before
entering the same, in accordance with rules and regulations direct-
ing the stopping of cars at arterial streets.
SECTION 2.
The Manager of the City of Bakersfield shall cause Stop
signs to be erected at said intersection of^lSth Street and Sonora
Street, in accordance with the California Vehicle Act of the State
of California.
SECTION S.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the pro-
visions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine not exceed-

ing three hundred ($300.00) dollars, or by imprisonment.in the
County Jail of Kern County not exceeding ninety (90) days, or by
both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 4.
If any section, sub-section, sentence, clause or phrase
of this ordinance is for any reason held to be unconstitutional
or invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the
remaining portions of this'ordinance. The City Council of the City
of Bakersfield declares that it would have passed this ordinance and
each section, sub-section, sentence, clause and phrase thereof
respective of the fact that any one or more of the sections, sub-
sections, sentences, clauses or phrases be declared unconstitutional
or invalid.
SECTION 5.
This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its
passage.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield on the
day of January, 1935, by the following vote:
