AN'EMERGENCY ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC
AT ~{E INTERSECTION OF EUREKA AND SONORA STREETS
AND THE INTERSECTION OF SONORA STREET AND THE'
ATCHISON, TOPEKA AND SANTA FE RAILWAY COMPANY
RIGHT OF WAY; AND MAKING A VIOLATION HEREOF A
MISDEMEANOR AND PROVIDING A PENALTY THEREFOR.
WHEREAS, the Public Works Department of the State of
California is about to commence the construction and widening of
the underpass under the ATCHISON, ~[0PEKA AND SANTA FE RAILWAY
on Uni on Ave nue; and,
WHEREAS, it is necessary to divert the traffic East on
Eureka Street and South on Sonora Street; and,
WHEREAS, the public safety and convenience requires the
passage of an emergency ordinance regulating said traffic.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield, as follows:
Section 1.
The intersection of Eureka Street with Sonora Street
is hereby declared to be a dangerous crossing, where the
traffic is and will be heavy and continuous, and vehicles
traveling in an easterly and westerly direction on said
Eureka Street shall stop at the intersection of said Streets
before entering the same, in aSeordance with rules and regu-
lations dire cringE the stopping of cars at arterial streets.
Section
The intersection of Sonora Street and the right of
way of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway is hereby
declared to be a dangerous crossing, where the traffic is
and will be heavy and continuous, and vehicles approaching
said right of way shall stop before entering or crossing
said right of way of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Rail-
road, in accordance with the rules and regulations direct-
ing the stopping of cars at arterial streets.
Section 3.
The Manager of the City of Bakersfield shall cause
Stop signs to be erected at said intersections, in accord-
an~e with the Motor Vehicle Law of the State of California.
Section &.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the
provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof, shall be punlshe~
by a fine, not exceeding $300. or by imprisonment in
County Jail of Kern County. not exceeding 90 days or by
both such fine and imprisonment.

Section 5.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held
to be unconstitutional, or invalid, such decisio~
shall not effect the validity of the remaining
portions of this ordinance. The City Council of
the City of Bakersfield declares that it would
have passed this ordinance and each section, sub-
section, sentence, clause and phrase thereof ir-
respective' of the fact that' any one or more of She
sectiota1 subsections, sentences, clauses'. or phrases
be declared unconstitutional or invalid.
Section 6.
This ordinance shall take effect immediately.
I HEP~wBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was
passed and adopted by ~he Council of the City of Bakersfield on
the 3rd day of December, 1934, by the following vote:
