AN' ORDINANCE REQUIRING A PERMIT TO PROVIDE MUSIC,
DANCING OR ENTERTAINERS IN PUBLIC PLACES WHERE
LIQUOR IS SERVED AND CONSUMED IN TEE CITY OF
BAKERSFIEID~ AND MAKING A VIOLATION HEREOF A
MISDEMEANOR.
BE IT 0RDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIE,
as follows:
SECTION 1.
It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation
.conducting a public place where liquor is served or consumed,
within the City of Bakers field, to provide and/or permit music and/or
dancing an.d/or entertainers within said public place where liquor is
served and/or consumed, without having first procured a permit from
the City Manager so to do.
SECTION 2.
Application· for such permit must be 'made on forms to be
furnished by the City Manager of said .City. Said application shall
be referred to the Chief of Police by the Ci.ty Manager for investiga-
tion as to the character and fitness of' the applicant, and whether
the proposed location is suitable and proper for conducting a place
where musiC' and/or dancing and/or entertainers are provided. The
Chief of Police shall submit a report on said application, whereupon
the City Manager shall, in his discretion, issue a permit if he
believes the applicant will conduct said place in an orderly, proper
and lawful manner, and that such music, and/or dancing, and/or
entertainers shall not interfere with the peace and quiet of the
· netghbgrhood, or be detrimental to public morals.
SECTION 3.
Every such permit shall expire quarterly, on the first
.... day of. January, April, July..and ·_OctOber.
SECTION 4..
The word "liquor" as used in this ordinance means beer,

wine, gin, whiskey, cordials or. xn~m, and every liquid or solid,
patented or not, containing one-half of one percent or more of
alcohol by volume, and which is fit for use for beverage purposes.
SECTION 5.
Should any applicant for a permit be dissatisfied with
the decision of the City Manager, he may petition the City Council
for a hearing, and the decision of the. City Council shall b e final
and conclusive.
SECTION 6.
Any person, firm 9r corporation..vi01ating any. Of the
provisions of this ordinance or fai!ing.to..comply with any of
t~e terms..Cont~ine~ herein, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor
and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine not
exceeding three hundred dollars ~$300.00) or..by imprisonment
in the County Jail of Kern County for a period not exceeding
ninety (90) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 7.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby expressly repealed.
