AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE QUAR-
ANTINE AND OBSERVATION 0F VICIOUS DOGS AND DOGS
SUSPECTED OF HAVING RABIES ~THIN THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, the health, safety and welfare of the inhabitants
of the City of Bakersfield require the passage of an emergency ord-
inance providing for the quarantine and observation of vicious dogs
and dogs suspected of having rabies,
BE IT 0RDAINEDBYTHE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD,
as follows:
Section 1.
Any dog within the City of Bakersfield that bites any
human being is hereby declared to be a vicious dog. Any person
owning, possessing or harboring such a dog and/or any person bitten
by such a dog shall immediately report the same to the Health
Officer of the City of Bakersfield, who shall place said dog under
regulation and quarantine for a period of ten (10) days. Said
regulation or quarantine may be had at the home of the owner or
possessor of said dog or at such other place' as may be designated
by the Health Officer of the City of Bakersfield, and said dog
shall be kept securely inclosed and under strict observation.
Should said dog show any indications of rabies within
said period of time it shall be the duty of the Health Officer
of the City of Bakersfield to cause said dog to be turned over to
the Board of Health of the State of California. Otherwise said
dog shall be returned to the person from whom it was taken.
Section 2.
Any person who shall fail to comply with the conditions
of the foregoing section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and
upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine not exceeding
five hundred dollars ($800.00) or by imprisonment in the County
Jail for a period not exceeding six (8) months, or by both such
fine and imprisonment,
Section 3.
This emergency ordinance shall be in effect immediately
upon its passage by the Council of the City of Bakersfield.
