AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE REPEALING EMERGENCY ORDINANCE
NO. 538 NEW SERIES AND A~NDING ORDINANCE N0. 502
NEW SERIES OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, the City Council hereby declares that an emergency
exists for the immediate preservation of the public safety and prop-
erty which requires the passage of an emergency ordinance declaring
a portion of H Street to be a boulevard,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT 0RDAINED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield, as follows:
SECTION 1.
That Emergency Ordi~-nance No. 538 New Series of the City of
Bakersfield be and the same is hereby repealed.
SECTION 2.
That a section to be known as Section 18 be added to Ordin-
ance No. 502 New Series of the City of Bakersfield, entitled "AN ORD-
INANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS OF THE CITY OF BAKERS-
FIELD AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT MF~R~niITH", said section
to read as follows:
Section 18, Boulevards.
The following streets and parts'of streets are hereby
declared to constitute boulevards for the purpose of this section, to-wit:
Chester Avenue, from but not including 34th Street, to and
including Brundage Lane.
Union Avenue, from and including Kentucky Street, to and
including California Avenue.
California Avenue, from but not including Oak Street, to but
not including Union Avenue, and the northerly approach of California
Avenue from and including Union Avenue to and including Baker Street.
Eighteenth Street, from but not including Oak Street, to
and including Union Avenue.
Twenty-first Street, from but not including Oak Street, to
but not including Golden State Avenue.
Twenty-fourth Street, from but not including Oak Street,
to but not including Golden State Avenue.
East Eighteenth Street, from but not including Union Avenue,
to and including the westerly approach of East TruxtunAvenue.
East TruxtunAvenue, from its intersection with East
Eighteenth Street to the Easterly City Limits.
Eighth.Street, from but not including Union Avenue, to
but not including Chester Avenue.
Baker Street, from but not including Bernard Street, to
a~ including the easterly approach of California Avenue.
Alta Vista Drive, from and including Lake Street, to and
inciudlng Jefferson Street.
Niles Street, from but not including Alta Vista Drive, to
the Easterly City Limits.
F Street, from and including Eighteenth Street, to but not
including California Avenue.
H Street, from but not including Brundage Lane, to but not
including Golden State Avenue.
Nineteenth Street at its intersection with Chester Avenue.
Kentucky Street at its intersection with Baker Street.
Alta Vista Drive at its intersection with the southerly
approach of Bernard Street.
Flower Street at its intersection with Beale Avenue and
King Street.
Every operator of a vehicle or street car traversing any
street intersecting any boulevard shall stop such vehicle or street
car at the place where such street meets the nearest propery line
of the boulevard before entering such boulevard, provided the property
line is clearly marked or signposted as required in this ordinance.
The City ~_anager is hereby authorized and required to place
and maintain or cause to be placed and maintained u~on each and every
street intersecting a boulevard and at or near the property line of
the boulevard, stop signs conforming to the requirements of Section
471 (c) of the Vehicle Code of 1939.

Section 2.
This ordinance is declared to be an emergency measure
within the meaning of Section 24 of the Charter of the City of
Bakersfield, State of California, and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public.safety and property, and shall take
effect immediately.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Emergency Ordinance
was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
at a regular meeting thereof held on the~~ay of~
