AN ERERGENCY ORDINANCE A~.'~ENDI~G SECTION 22 OF
ORDINANCE NO. ~02 NEW SERIES OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, the City Council hereby declares that an emergency
exists for the immediate preservation of the public peace, property
and safety, which requires the passage of an emergency ordinance
prohibiting the riding of'bicycles upon any sidewalk within the City
of Bakersfield,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT 0RDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD, as follows:
SECTION 1.
That Section 22 of Ordinance No. 502 New Series of the City
of Bakersfield entitled "AN 0_RDIEANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC UPON THE
PUBLIC STREET~ OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD AND P~PEALING ALL 0RDINf~CES
INCONSISTENT HEREWITH" be and the same is hereby amended to read as
follows:
Section 22. Bicycle Riding Restricted.
It shall be unlawful to ride a bicycle upen any sidewalk
within the limits of the City of Bakersfield. The rider of a bicycle
upon a roadway shall ride as nearly as practicable within five (5)
feet of the right hand curb edge of the roadway except when passing
a standing vehicle or other vehicle or making a left hand turn at an
intersection.
SECTION 2.
This ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency
ordinance within the meaning of Section 24 of the Charter of the
City of Bakersfield, State of California, and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public pe~ce, property and safety,
and shall take effect immediately upon its passage by the City
Council of the City of Bakersfield.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Emergency Ordinance
was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
at a regular meeting thereof held on the~__~__~aay of 0ctober~
1939, by the following vote:
