HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD NO 586ORDINANCE N0.~'~ NEW SERIES AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE N0. 560 NEW SERIES AND AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 502 NEW SERIES OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, as follows: SECTION 1. That Ordinance No. 560 New Series of the City of Bakersfield be and the same is hereby repealed. SECTION 2. That a section to be known as Section 18 be added to Ordin- ance No. 502 New Series of the City of Bakersfield, entitled "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT HEREWITH", said section to read as follows: Section 1__8. Through Highways. The following streets and parts of streets are hereby declared to constitute through highways for the purpose of this section, and are in compliance with Section 471 (b) of the Vehicle Code of the State of California, to-wita Chester Avenue, from but not including 34th Street, to and including Brundage Lane. Chester Avenue South, from but not including Brundage Lane, to but not including Terrace Way. Union Avenue, from and including Kentucky Street, to but not including California Avenue. California Avenue, from but not including Oak Street, to but not including UniQn Avenue. The northerly approaches of East California Avenue from and 'i~c~uding union Avenue to and including Baker Street. Eighteenth Street, from but not including Oak Street, to and including Union Avenue. Twenty-first Street, from'but not including Oak Street, to but not including Golden State Avenue. Twenty-fourth Street, from but not including Oak Street, to but not including Golden State Avenue. East Eighteenth Street, from but not including Union Avenue, to and including the westerly approach of East Truxtun Avenue. East TruxtunAvenue, from its intersection with East Eighteenth Street to the Easterly City Limits. Eighth Street, from but not includin~ Union Avenue, to but not includir~ Chester Avenue. Thirtieth Street from Union Avenue to Garces Circle. Baker Street, from but not including Bernard Street, to and includir~ the easterly approach of East California Avenue. Alta Vista Drive, from and including Lake Street, to and including Jefferson Street. Niles ~treet, from but not including Union Avenue, to but not includin~ Alta Vista Drive. Niles Streett from but not including Alta Vista Drive, to the Easterly City Limits. Flower Street, from but not includir~ Baker Street, to but not including Alta Vista DriVe. F Street, from and including Eighteenth Street, to but not includin~ CalifOrnia Avenue. H ~treet, from but not lncludin~ Brundage Lane, to but not includln~ Golden State Avenue. Every operator of a vehicle or street car traversin~ any street intersectin~ a~ through street shall stop such vehicle or street car at the place where such street meets the nearest property line of the through street before enterin~ such through street~ provided the property line is clearly marked or signposted as re- quired In this ordl~nce. The City Manager ls hereby authorized and required to place and maintain or cause to be placed and maintained upon each and every street intersectl~ a t~ou~h Street and at or near the propert~ line of the t~ou~h street~ stop signs conformin~ to the requirements of Section 4~1 (c) of the Vehicle Code of 1939. That a new section to be known as Section 18A be added to Ordinance No. ~02 New Series of the City of Bakersfield, designating certain intersections as stop intersections in compliance with Section 471 (b) of the Vehicle Code of the State of California, said section to read as follows: Section 18A. StoD Intersections. The following intersections are hereby designated as stop intersections for tba purpose of this section, to-wit: Chester Avenue at its intersection with Truxtun Avenue. Thirtieth Street at the westerly approach to Union Avenue. Niles Street at the easterly approach to Union Avenue. Nineteenth Street at its intersection with Chester Avenue. Kentucky Street at its intersection with Baker Street. Alta Vista Drive at the southerly approach to Bernard Street. Flower Street at its intersection with Beale Avenue. Flower Street at its intersection with King Street. Every operator of a vehicle or street car traversing any street intersecting any stop intersection shall stop such vehicle or street car at the place where such street meets the nearest property line of the stop intersection before entering such intersection, providing the property line is clearly marked or signposted as required in this ordinance. The City Manager is hereby authorized and required to place and maintain or cause to be placed and maintained upon each and every stop intersection, at or near the property line of such stop inter- section, stop signs conforming to the requirements of Section 471 (c) of the Vehicle Code of 1939- SECTION 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby expressly repealed. ......... 000 .........
