N0. ~9~ NE%V SERIES, AND REPEALING ORDINANCE N0. 637
NEW SERIES OF THE CITY OF BAF~.RSFIELD~ CALIFORNIA.
~AS, the health, safety and welfare of the inhabitants
of the City of Bakersfield requires the passage of an emergency
ordinance relative to l&aves of absence for those in the armed
forces of the United States.
A~0W THEREFORE RE IT 0K0~IA~3~D BY THE COUNCIL OF TEE CITY OF
BAilERSFIELD, as follows:
Section 1.
Section 6 of Ordinance No. ~9~ New Series, of the City of
Bakersfield, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 6. Leave of absence is hereby granted to any officer
or employee of the City of Bakersfield now or hereafter rendering
service in the armed forces of the United 8tares of America, or
of the State of California, whether by voluntary enlistment or
otherwise, for the period of such service. In all cases such
leave shall terminate when such employee returns to duty with the
City~ provided, that such leave shall not extend beyond ninety days
after such officer or employee is discharged or released from the
armed forces. All such leaves of absence shall be without pay ex-
cept as otherwise provided by Charter or OrdinanCe. Such employee
upon his return to service 'with the City of Bakersfield, shall be
reinstated to the same grade or rank held at the time the leave of
absence was granted.
Section 2.
Ordinance ~o. 637 iqew Series of the City of Bakersfield and all
other ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, are
hereby expressly repealed.
~ection 3.
This ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure
within the meaning of Section 24 of the Charter of the City of
Bakersfield, ~tate of California, and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, safety and welfare, and providing
for the daily operation of a Municipal Department.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Emergency Ordinance was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield, at
a regular meeting thereof held on the day of
