That the 5niform Buildin~ Code~ 1940 Edition~ as adopted by
the Pacific Coast 3uilding Officials' Coherence at the 6th .~mlual
1.2eeti~ 0ctober~ 1927~ uith 2evisions and ~kdditions approved at
the 17th .amual Leeti~ 0ctober~ 1939, as published Lay 1~ 1940~
printi~ of i~ay: 1940, as the same now reads~ be and the same is
hereby adopted~ except as to dections 104 and 203~ which shall read
as follows:
~ECTION iOA. The follolvinZ specified requirements shall apply to
existi~ buildings %~hich for a~ reason %?hatso~ver do not co~'orm
to the requirements of this Code for ne~., buildings:
(a) lf3~_.~terations snd i{e~3.. If alterations and re-
pairs in excess of >0 per cent of the value of an existi~ buildi~
are made to such building within a~ period. of 12 months~ the entire
building shall be made to conforu vith the requirements given herein
fop ner~ buildinZs. ..~ existing buildi~ Ivhich for a~ reason Fhatso-
ever~ requires. repairs~ at a~ one t~ae~ in emzcess of :/0 per cent of
the value thereof~ not deductinZ~ from such value ~ny loss caused by
fire or a~ other reason~ shall be made to conform to the requirements
of this code or shall be demolished~ except as specified in Section 1602.
(b) ChanKed Os~. If the sxistl~ use or 'occupancy of an exist-
ing building is changed to a use or occupancy vzhich vzo~d not be
permitted in a similar building hereafter erected~ the entire b~ilding
shall be made to conform uith the requirements given herein for neff
buildi~s; provided~ ho}vever~ that if the use or occupancy of
a portion or portions of an existing building is chan~ed and such
portion or portions are segregated as specified in Section ~03 of
this Oode then only such portion or portions of the building need
to be made to comply with said requirements; and provided, further,
that the Building Inspector is hereby given authority to approve any
change in the use or occupancy of any existing building within any
one Group of Occupancy as specified in Part III, even though such
building is not made to fully conform to the requirements of tills Code,
when it is obvious that such a change in the use or occupancy of the
existing building will not extend or increase any existing non-
conformity or hazard of the building.
(c) Additions. .&ny existing building not covered by the
preceding paragraphs (a) and (b) ~ich has'its floor area or its
number of stories increased or its use or occupancy changed in any
way from its former or existing use or occupancy shall be provided
with staiE~rays, emergency exits and fire protection facilities as
required in this Code for buildings hereafter erected for similar
uses or occupancies.
(d) Structural alterations and Repairs. ',~ere any alteration
or repair is made to the structural portion of any. building or
structure, the structural portion or any ,part thereof shall be made
to conform to the requirements of this code for neu buildings where
deemed necessary by the Building Inspector.
(e) l~on~truCtural. ~dteraJ~pns and i~enairs. kinor non-
structural alterations, reapire s. nd changes may be made v~ith the same
materials of v~hich the building is constructed; provided, that not
more than 25 per cent of the roof covering of any building shall be
replaced in any period of 12 months unless the new roof covering is
made to conform to the requirements of this Code for new buildings.
~lew roofing meeting the req.uireme~ts of this Code may be placed
over existing roofing when the existing roofing and roof framing are
such ~s to permit the net roofing to be properly supported and
securely fastened.
(f) k~v_i~ ~iou~e_~s. ~o buildin~ used for residence or apartment
house purposes shall be r~oved from one location to another until the
consent of the owners of a majority of the property frontage on both

SECTION 20~. any person desiring a building permit shall, at the time
of filing an application therefor, as provided in Section 201 of this
Code, pay to the Building Inspector a fee as required in this section:
For a total valuation of ~2~.00 or less, no fee.
For a total valuation from ~2~.00 to and including $~00.00, a
~l.O0 fee.
For a total valuation from .;~00.00 to and including ~l,O00.00,
a $2.50 fee.
an additional fee of ~:l.~O for each additional ~l,000.00 or
fraction thereof of total valuation to and including.~ ~l~,O00.O0.
~n additional fee of -.~.00 for each additional ~l,000.00 or
fraction thereof of total valuation from '~l~,000.00 to and including
~40,000.00.
an additional fee of 50¢ for each additional .;1,000.O0 or
fraction thereof of total valuation exceeding -)40,000.00.
The city, county, state, or the United States of anerica shall
be exempt from the paying of any fee as provided in this ordinance.
L~ere u~ork for ~:hich ~ permit is rec'.uired by this Code is started
or proceeded with prior to obtainin~ said permit, the fees above speci-
fied shall be doubled, but the payment of such do~le fee shall not
relieve an~ persons from fully co~plyin~ ~'ith the rec,~rm:ents of ~is
Code in the execration of the ~rk nor from any other penalties pre-
scribed heroin.
The ~)uilding Inspector shall ]~ep a per~xanent, accurate accob~t
of all fees and other monies collected and rsceived under this code,
the names of the persons upon ~:;hose account the s~me ~.vere paid~ t'~e
date and amo~unt thereof, together :':ith the location of the buildinZ
or premises to vrhich they relate.
That Ordinance i'.[o. 5~5~7 i.'ev.r Series of the City of Za?jersfield~
~nd all ordinances amendatory thereof, be and the same are hereby
repealed.
