Wi~aS, the City Council hereby declares that an emergency
exists making it necessary to provide a license tax for a business
not heretofore provided for.

SECTION 1.
That Section ~ of License Ordinance No..J31 New Series of
the City of Bakersfield~ be and the same' is hereby amended by adding
thereto a new sub-section to be number 61, said sub-sectio~ to read
as follows:
61. tiEP~iRING~ INST~',V.LING AifD ~JU~TIHG WEIGHING A'~D ~-d~.ASUiIIHG
I}~TiID-,~'ENTS. (a) Every person, firm or corporation conducting for
hire, the business of repairing, installing and adjusting weighing and
measuring instruments in the City of Bakersfield, shall pay a license
~ax of $2%.00 per year~ payable in advance.
No license shall be issued under the provisions of this sub-
section until the City Nanager has issued a permit therefor$ said
permit may be issued upon application filed with the City ilanager,
bearing the approval of the Healer of ::~'eights and ISeasures thereon.
(b) It shall be unla%..:ful for any person in possession and con-
trol of any weighing or measuring instrument to permit the repair, adjust-
ment to or installation of such instrument by any person ;-:ho is not
licensed as required herein.
~ECTION 2.
This ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency
measure within the meaning of ~ection 24 of the Charter of the City
of Bakersfield, &tate of California, and necessary to provide for the
daily operation of a municipal department, and shall take effect
immediately upon its ~assage.

passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Dakersfield, at a
regular meeting thereof held on the I~ day of February, 1946, by
the following vote:
