AN EEERGENCY ORDINANCE ~ENDING SUBSECTION
(a) OF SECTION 8 OF ORDINANCE NO. 879 NEW
SERIES OF TBE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, since the destruction of a portion of the buildings, in
the City of Bakersfield as a result of the recent earthquakes, it has
become necessary to secure the services of an experienced and technically
trained person to act in the capacity of chief building inspector, and
WHEREAS, under the present salary schedule for the classifica-
tion of chief building inspector, it has been impossible to secure the
services of a qualified person to a~t in such capacity, and this Council
finds it necessary to change the schedule for said classification, and
to add a new classification to be known and designated as Assistant
Chief Building Inspectort and
WHEREAS, the City Council hereby declares that an emergency
exists for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health,
property and safety and requires the passage of an emergency ordinance
to provide for the daily operation of municipal departments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield, as follows:
SECTION 1 ·
That subsection (a) of Section 8 of Ordinance No. 8.79 New
Series of the City of Bakersfield, be and tb~ sam~ is hereby amended
by changing the Schedule Number for Chief Building Inspector as follows:
Schedule No. Class
40 Chief Building Inspector

SECTION 2.
That subsection (a) of Section 8 of Ordinance No. 879 New
Series of the City of Bakersfield, be and the same is herebN amended
by adding thereto a new classification with appropriate schedule
number to read as follows:
Schedule No. Class
33 Assistant Chief Building Inspector
SECTION 3.
This ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure
within the meaning of Section 24 of the .Charter of the City of Bakers-
field, State of California, and necessary for the immediate preservation
of the public, health, peace, prope'~ty and safety, and shall be effective
immediately upon its passage.

I HE~EBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Emergency Ordinance was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 29th day of December, 1982, by
the following vote:
