AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE AMENDING SUBDIVISION
(b) OF SECTION 3 .OF ORDINANCE NO. 879, NEW
SERIES OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, BY- ADD-
ING THERETO THREE NEW PARAGRAPHS TO BE DESIG-
NATED (b.l) , (b.2)' and (b.3) .
The: Council of the- Citg.'of Bakersfield finds it necessary
to provide for the safety of school children while crossing streets
in -said City 'during. the school terms; to provide .temporary and
seasonal personnel for such purpose, and to `establioli the. hourly
-compensation to -bepaid to -such personnel. "
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City' of
Bakersfield, as follows:
SECTION 1.
That Subdivision (b) of Section 3 of Ordinance: No. . 879, New
Series -of 'the City of Bakersfield be and the same is hereby amended
by adding thereto three new paragraphs to be designated (b.l)', (b..2)'
and -(b.3) ;. which said paragraphs.- shall read as follows:
(b.l) There is hereby created the 'position of School Crossing
Guard in the. Police Department of the City of Bakersfield,-'.w'hich
position shall be -temporary and seasonal only.
(b.2) Temporary and. seasonal work performed by any person as
school' orossing- guard, shall not entitle the . said person .to any
vacation credit or sick leave. No such school crossing guard shall
attain any civil service status because -of such employment.
(b.3) :school crossing guards employed-as-:such on a temporary
and seasonal baeis as provided herein, shall receive an hourly comp '
ensetlon-'of t-: 0� for--eattr-hour 16 -worked as a school crossing guard.
SECTION 2.
This ordinance is hereby declared -to. be an emergency meastu''
within the meaning of Section 24 of the Charter: of the City. afm' $k rs-

field, State' of California, and necessary to provide for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, property and safety, and shall take
effect immediately upon its passage.' '
