' THE BAKERSFIE•LD MUNICIPAL .TRANSIT SYSTEM.: V F!RE S, the City of..Bakersfield-wi-11, on -the. lst day of August, 1956, take over and: operate a trap' sit,'system now owned by the Bakers- . . field Transit-.-Company, for .a period of dght months, for the purpose of furnishing- transportation both within anal `without the. City of- Bakersfield, ••and WHEREAS, an emergency exists making It. necessary .to provide' for the •daily operation of` -said- transit :system by . establishing the. rates of, compensation •to. be paid to personnel.. employed in'.the: conduct of • .said transit system. NOW, THEREFORE, BE -'IT' -ORDAINED..by -the Council -of . the. City of Bakersfield,' ELS follows: SECTION- l. All positions of employment in the operation.-of the transit system shall be •temporary.•only,.. and the work performed'by persons iii:'said system shall not:.entitle 'such' persons to attain any civil service .status because of such employment; provided; however-,: that' in the .event. said transit system..becomes a'permanent 'funct•ion of the City: •of 'Bakersfield, 'all.-.'employees'.. of such `system then employed, shall be. .given__credit for the length of service• in. said system: from the date, of his original employment by -the. City under• this ordinance.. SECTION' 2.
