: WHEREAS, by reason of the .impending discontinuance 'of the ..

to the provisions of the Charter-.. of -the • City of -Bakersfield 'thich

and regulate public .utilities, this. council. deems it . Advisable, and

.SECTION 1.
That the City of.Bakersfield :may. lease the equipmentf_'plant and
faciIiiie:s of , the' .Bak6 rsf ie ld Transit Company, for a period ,of time
coiamencir g August 1, , 1956.
: SECTION 2. :
:The operat3,on of the` Transit System shall be under. -the . super-
': vi s.Ion: of the -City Manage r.

City- Council concerning the conduct of said transit system.

SECTION•
The" Cl-ty Council. shall:
(a) Fix, determine and establish'.rateP. to 'be charged for
the use of the..-transit facilities operated or used hereunder.

(b) Fix- schedule s and •bus routes, which may extend -outside
the limits: of the said: city, 'and establish general policies incidental
to and•'neoess,ary :for the erficient operation. of said. system.
(c) Iature the Transit System •and property and .equiPment of. .
-eve kind and nature' against loss or damage , fire j':elements•;_ casualty
and. :public 1'.Lability and other causes for which 'protection is .needed.
(d) Establish and fix the rates of 'pay. for` the employees em=
ployed in the operation;.of. :said. •transit system..
: . SECTION 5.
The. City Manager shall 'employ all personnel necessary for this
operation of said :transit system;: including consultant, whose salary
shall: be. f Jxe d .by the : c ounc i 1.
SECTION 60 : '
All monies collected from -the operation of the. -transit system
'herein provided for , shall. be' deposited in the treasury of. the: 'City
and maintained in a separate fund to .be : known as : TRANSIT :FUND. With- .
drawals from .said fund may be made for the :following .purposes:r::
l., :Tor -the payment -of• all expenses • for the leasing. and opera- .
tion- of' s.ai d' 'system, including all sal.arie s, insurance premiums and
ot}as'r..riece'ssary incidental expenses 'conn&cte.d' with the operation of
said system. -

SECTION 7.:
