RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FINANCE
DIRECTOR TO SELL SURPLUS
EQUIPMENT DONATED BY WASCO STATE
PRISON
WHEREAS, in September, 2005, the City Council authorized the Bakersfield
PDlice Department to sell surplus equipment including approximately 40 riot helmets,
leather belts and miscellaneous leather gear including holsters, cuff cases and
magazine holders to the United States Army for use by Iraqi police personnel; and
WHEREAS, Wasco State Prison recently upgraded the batons used by its
guards and was left with 395 surplus batons (385 side-handled and 10 straight-
handled); and
WHEREAS, Wasco State Prison desires that the surplus batons be made
available tD the Iraqi police force and have donated them to the Bakersfield Police
Department for this purpose; and
WHEREAS, the United States Army desires to buy all such surplus equipment
for consideration of One Dollar ($1.00); and
WHEREAS, upon approval of the purchase by City Council, the United States
Army will ensure that the equipment is transported to the Iraqi police personnel; and
WHEREAS, the Bakersfield Police Department and the City of Bakersfield desire
to sell such surplus equipment to the Army for use by Iraqi police for One Dollar ($1.00).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
1. The above recitals and findings are true and correct and are incDrporated
herein by reference.
2. The Finance Director, pursuant to Bakersfield Municipal Code section
3.20.120(f), is authorized to sell the above-referenced surplus equipment to the United
States Army for the total amount of $1.00.
