HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD NO 1319 0RDIhANCE NC. 1319 NEW SERIES AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2 OF ORDINANCE NO. 658, NEW SERI~S, OF THE.' CITY OF BAKERS- FIELD PERTAIEING TO DEFI~ITIONS. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield, as follows: SECTI0h 1 That Section 2 of Ordinance No. 658, New Series, of the City of Bakersfield, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 2. (a) ALLEY-- Any street which does not exceed thirty-three (33) feet in width between property lines. (b) CENTRAL TRAFFTC '.DISTRICT -- All of the area within the boundary of the following streets: From the West line of "F" Street to the East line of "~" Street, from the North line of 25th Street to the North line of 15th Street (Santa Fe Railroad Tracks ). (c) HOLIDAYS -- The first of January, thirtieth of May, fourth of July, first Monday in September, Thanksgiving Day and the twenty-fifth of December. Whenever any of the aforemmntioned days falls, on Sunday, the following Monday shall be considered a holiday within the meaning of this ordinance. (d) LOADING Z0~E -- That space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials. (e) OFFICIAL THAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES -- All signs, signals, markings and devices not inconsistent with this ordinance placed or erected by authority of a public body or official having Jurisdiction, for the purpose of regulating, warning or guiding tr af fi c. (f) OFFICIA~ TRAFFIC SIGNALS -- Any device, whether manually, 1. electrically, or mechanically operated, by which traffic is alternately directed to stop and to proceed, and which is erected by authority of a public body or official having Jurisdiction. (g) PARKWAY -- That portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk. (h) PASS~:NG~R LOADING ZONE -- That space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers. (i) PEDESTRIAN -- Any person afoot. (j) POLICE OFFICa:R -- Every officer of the Police Department of the City of Bakersfield. (k) STOP -- When required, means complete cessation of move me nt. (1) 'STOP OR STA~D -- When prohibited, means any stopping of a vehicle except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the direction of a police officer or official traffic control device. (m) PARK -- The standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading passengers or materials. (n) TRAF'~-TC -- Pedestrians and vehicles, either singly or together, while using any street for purposes of travel. (o) TRA~-~'IC ~.UTHORITY 1. An officer of the City of Balers- field designated by the City Council, which designation shall be by resolution of said City Council. 2. Whenever and wherever in any section of this ordinance, certain responsibilities or duties are imposed upon the City Manager and/or the Chief of Police, such responsibilities and/or duties shall be deemed to be imposed upon the duly and regularly appointed Traffic Authority. (p) STREET OR HIGHWAY -- Street or highway is a way or place of whatever nature publicly maintained and open to the use of the public for purposes of vehicular travel, except alleys. (q) SIDEWALK -- That portion of street, highway, or alley other than the roadway, set aside for pedestrian travel. ..... 000 .....
