AN ORDINANCE CRANTING SOUTHERN PACIFIC COHPANY A
~CHISE TO CONSTI~UCT AND RELOCATE RAILROAD
TRACKS ACROSS 24TH STREET, IN THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD, COUNTY OF KERN.
WHEIL~S, the Southern Pacific Company, a corporation, did on
the 18th day of September, 1961, present its petition and application
to this Council wherein it prayed t/~at per~ssion be granted to it
and to its successors and assigns, a permit to lay down, construct
and relocate, maintain and operate additional railroad tracks of
standard gauge, across 24th Street in the City of Bakersfield, the
center line and location of said tracks being particularly set forth
in said petition and application, and
WHEI~F~S, it appearing to ~he satisfaction of this Council that
the said railroad tracks, as prayed for, are necessary in order that
said Southern Pacific Company ~,-_y properly conduct and carry on its
business in said City of. Bakersfield,
NOW, THEI~EFOI~E, BE IT P. ESOLVED that there be and there is
hereby §ranted to the Southern Pacific Company, a corporation, its
successors and assigns, a franchise and the right and privilege and
perm~ssion to lay down, construct and relocate, maintain and operate
additional railroad tracks of standard gauge across a Street in the
City of Bakersfield described as follows:

~a~.~orn~a; _thence southeasterly 195 feet, more or less,
to a point on the southerly line of 24th Street 2?? feet, more
or less, westerly from the westerly line of Union Avenue.

Beginning at a point on the northerly .line of 24th
Street 3 feet, more or less, southwesterly fr.om the center
line of the Southern Pacific Company's ~L~in L~ne track in
the City of Bakersfield, County of Kern, State of California;
thence southeasterly 195 feet, more or less, to a point on
the southerly line of 24th Street 5 feet, more or less,
southwesterly from said main line track.
Tha~' this franchise to lay doum, construct and relocate,
maintain and operate said railroad tracks is granted subject:
1. To such regulations and conditions as may be prescribed
from tim~ to time by the Council of the City of Bakersfield.
2. To the use of said railroad tracks for the transportation
of freight for hire.
3. That said Railroad tracks must be laid to conform to the
grade of the Street over which it passes.
4. That it must be operated under such restrictions as not
to interfere with the use of said Street by the public, and
5. That this franchise shall be revocable at the pleasure
of the Council of the City of Bakersfield.

adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting
