AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR ONE-WAY TRAFFIC
ON NILES AND MONTEREY STREETS IN THE CITY
OF BAKERSFIELD, BETWEEN CERTAIN POINTS,
DESIGNATING THE DIRECTION OF SAID TRAFFIC
ON SAID STREETS.
WHEREAS, Niles Street east from Baker Street is an existing
State highway located in the City of Bakersfield in the State of
California, and the Council of said City is desirous that the segment
of such State highway extending east from the intersection of Baker
Street to Williams Street, in said City, be restricted to one-way
traffic; and
WHEREAS, that portion of Niles Street which is west of Baker
Street is a city street located in said City, and the Council of said
City is desirous that that segment of such city street extending east
from 162 feet east of Stockton Street, in said City, be restricted to
one-way traffic; and
WHEREAS, Monterey Street is a city street located in said City,
and the Council of said City is desirous that the segment of such City
street extending east from 162 feet east of Stockton Street to the
vicinity of Brown Street, in said City, be restricted to one-way
traffic; and
WHEREAS, said Niles Street and said Mmnterey Street are sub-
stantially parallel, and the distance between them is one city block
or approximately 400 feet.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield as follows:
Section 1o That the following named streets are hereby
designated as one-way streets in the directions indicated:
1. Monterey Street. One-way traffic in an easterly direction
beginning at a point 162 feet east of the intersection of the center
lines of Niles Street and Stockton Street and ending at a point on Niles
Street 176 feet east of the intersection of the center lines of Niles
Street and Brown Street via a connection between Monterey Street and
Niles Street to be constructed by the Department of Public Works of
the State of California.
2. Niles Street. One-way traffic in a westerly direction
beginning at a point 276 feet east of the intersection of the center
lines of Niles Street and Brown Street and ending at a point 162 feet
east of the intersection of the center lines of Niles Street and
Stockton Street.
Section 2. That the designation of Monterey Street and Niles
Street as one-way streets shall become operative only upon the
inclusion of Monterey Street and that portion of Niles Street west of
Baker Street as parts of the State Highway System under the provisions
of Section 111.5 and Section 81 of the Streets and Highways Code of
the State of California, and said Monterey Street and said Niles
Street being opened to one-way traffic, and appropriate signs being
erected by the Department of Public Works of the State of California.
Section 3. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect thirty days and after final passage thereof.

adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting
