AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE ABOLISHING THE OFFICE
OF CITY ASSESSOR AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES
IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield ~y its City Council, did, on
the 15th day of January, 1962 enact EmerEency Ordinance No. 1402, New
Series, and
WHEREAS, Emergency Ordinance No. 1402, New Series, provided for
the transfer of the functions of tax assessment by the City of
Bakersfield to the County of Kern, and
WHEREAS, such transfer was accomplished pursuant to the City
Charter and the Government Code of the State of California, and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 24 of the Charter of the City of
Bakersfield an emergency ordinance may be enacted for the i---ediate
preservation of public h&alth, peace, property or safety, and
WHEREAS, in order to i,...~ediately preserve intact public funds
which would otherwis~ be' spent in the operation of a department which
no longer has any duties to perform,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield as follows:
Section 1. Abolishment of Office of City Assessor. There is
hereby abolished the office of City Assessor and all funds heretofore
appropriated for said office for the current fiscal year are to revert
to the General Fund of the City of Bakersfield, except those funds
necessar.y to terminate the employment of the personnel in said
Assessor's Office.
Section 2. Termination of Personnel. The Assessor and the
personnel in the office of Assessor are hereby terminated from
employment with the City of Bakersfield as of this date, provided,
however, that such personnel in the office of Assessor whose classifi-
cation is of like classification in any other department of the City

which has an openin§ for such a classification may be retained by the
City of Bakersfield as needed°
Section 3. Repeal of Ordinances in Conflict Herewith. All
ordinances or parts of ordinances which are in conflict with or
provide for any duties, functions, or employment of personnel in the
office of City Assessor are hereby repealed.
