AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD
AMENDING SECTION 11.04.760 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE
SETTING SPEED LIMITS ON CALIFORNIA AVENUE BETWEEN
THE BUTTONWILLOW RAILROAD CROSSING AND STOCKDALE
HIGHWAY.
WHEREAS, California Avenue has been extended between Oak
Street and Stockdale Highway in the City of Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, no speed limit presently exists on this.
extension of California Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the absence of a speed limit creates a hazard to
life, property, and the safety of the people traveling on California
Avenue.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 11.04.760 of the Municipal Code is amended to
read as follows:
Section 11.04.760 Speed Limit on California Avenue.
A. A prima facie speed limit of thirty-five miles per
hour is hereby determined and declared to be the prima facie speed
at which vehicles may travel on California Avenue between the
Buttonwillow Railroad crossing and the easterly line of Oak Street
except that a prima facie speed limit of forty-five miles per hour
is hereby determined and declared to be the prima facie speed at which
westbound vehicles may travel on California Avenue between the
westerly line of "A" Street and the easterly line of Oak Street.
B. A prima facie speed limit of forty-five miles per hour
is hereby determined and declared to be the prima facie speed at
which vehicles may travel on California Avenue between the westerly
line of Oak Street and Stockdale Highway.
SECTION 2..
This ordinance is declared to be am emergency ordinance
pursuant to Section 24 of the Charter of the City of Bakersfield and
shall become effective i~m~ediately upon its passage.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 26th day of May, 1969, by the
following vote:
