HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD NO 1816 ORDINANCE NO. 1816 , NEW SERIES AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD AMENDING SECTION 11.04.650 BY PROHIBITING THE PARKING OF LARGE COMMERCIAL VEHICLES ON THE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS WITHIN THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 5:00 P. M. AND 9:00 A. M.: WITH EXCEPTIONS. WHEREAS, the investigation of the Traffic Authority has disclosed that the parking of large, unlighted trucks and trailers upon the City's streets during the nighttime is a hazard to the motoring public, and WHEREAS, large trucks and trailers by virtue of their size hinder the free flow of traffic and obstruct the view of intersecting drivers when said trucks or trailers are parked upon City streets so as to be a further hazard to the motoring public particularly during congested, rush-hour traffic, and WHEREAS, the existing truck route ordinance permits the parking of trucks and trailers on designated truck routes within the City, and WHEREAS, this ordinance Will except certain streets within the City whereupon trucks may park on the roadway for the purpose of attaining food and/or lodging. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: SECTION I Section 11.04.650 (truck routes established) be amended by redesignating Subsection (e) as Subsection (f) and adding a new Subsection (e) as follows: (e) No operator or owner of a vehicle or trailer used primarily' for 'carrying merchandise, freight, or material weighing in excess of three tons or being in excess of ninety inches or more in width, shall park or be permitted to park along any designated truck route within the City of Bakersfield between the hours of 5:00 P. M. and 9:00 A. M., except for a reasonable period of time necessary for the actual loading or unloading of merchandise, freight or materials. Said prohibition shall not apply to Union Avenue south of 21st Street, Golden State Highway, Pierce Road or Oak Street within the City of Bakersfield.
