HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD NO 1829 ORDINANCE NO.. 1829 NEW SERIES AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD AUTHORIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF BICYCLE LANES ON CITY STREETS WHERE NECESSARY EXCEPT ON STATE AND COUNTY HIGH- WAYS AS EXEMPTED BY SECTION 21207 OF THE CAI, IFORNIAVEHICLE CODE. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: SECTION I That Section 11.04.285 be added to the Municipal Code of the City of Bakersfield to read as follows: 11.04.285 BICYCLE LANES. a. Upon a showing of necessity by a survey conducted by the Traffic Authority and/or the City Engineering Department, bicycle lanes may be established on any City street where the need exists and no hazard would be created, except on those highways exempted by State Law. b. Each bicycle lane is to be separated from other lanes of traffic by appropriate signs, 'painted markings, and when practical, curbs, barriers or marker buttons. c. On any street where a bicycle lane has been established, bicycles shall be restricted to that bicycle lane and shall be required to follow any direction or 'pavement markings 'pertaining to the bicycle lane. d. Bicycles shall have the right-of-way over all other vehicles when pro'perly within the bicycle lane. SECTION II This ordinance shall become effective thirty days from and after the date of its passage. -o0o- I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting thereof held on the 20th day of October, 1969, by the following vote: AYES..
